I thought I'm really strong inside and that I never needed him and could do so even without him. I knew I liked him, but not so much so that I could ever be miserable over him otherwise. I ultimately walked out, and he asked me to 'stay'. I told him that's what he thought then, but later he'll forget me and he'll laugh over it.
Now, he was right. I was darn naive ! And I might just need him.

i dont believe im the only one who has commented on this song! i think its a really cool song about a boyfriend who she loves and who wants her to stay with him, but he is always changing his mood and he's hard for her to please but she still loves him and when she tries to leave she just cant because she still loves him so much

Looks like the lyrics are pretty much as Stephen Foster wrote them, but I may have to sanitize them for use around the campfire. When I was in grammar school we sang Oh Susanna and lots of other Foster songs that wouldn't be allowed today.
