You told me I was all you'd ever need
You said my love would always be enough
Your scarlet kisses on my skin fooled me till the end
Every single word you said every drop dead shade of red
Were just lipstick promises
Was I easy to deceive you were so easy to believe
I fell for your every kiss and your lipstick promises
Since you've gone I see where I went wrong
All your lies somehow left me blind
What you said would last so long was only painted on
Every single word you said...
[ guitar ]
Was I easy to deceive you were so easy to believe
I fell for your every kiss and your lipstick promises
Every single word you said every drop dead shade of red
Were just lipstick promises just lipstick promises
A minor correction. Depending on which chart you followed back then, Lipstick Promises actually became No 1 and No 2, simultaneously -- the only time that happened for George. He's written a ton of great songs for other artists...let's hope he get's back into the studio and back out on the road someday soon!
I remember the mid-late 90s when this song came out. It was and is an amazing song and I was dissappoineted that it only rose as high as number 7 on the charts and only stayed there for a week. George was a new songer at the time and the song didnt get the rating it deserved. I feel this about a number of later songs he put in the months to come. This song is a really good song.
