A new appreciation | Reviewer: Jim H. | 11/12/10
I always liked Linda Ronstadt's music (at least what I heard on the radio), but I was never moved enough to listen to her albums in-depth. I picked up a copy of "Feels Like Home" at a flea market, popped it in the CD player and headed down the road. Wow! What a voice! What a talent! The first song was easily recognizable. Tom Petty's "The Waiting". I don't usually like to hear covers of hit songs, but this was a great job. Later on I was equally impressed with Linda's version of Neil Young's "After The Gold Rush". I really enjoy every song on this album, but two stand out above the rest. "The Blue Train" is a great song and Ms. Ronstadt sings it perfectly. When you hear it, you'll understand. The title song was written by Randy Newman. I don't know, but I always felt Mr. Newman's songs were good, but silly. "Feels Like Home" almost brings you to tears, both from joy and sadness. I keep the CD in the car and it gets played on almost every trip out of town. I put it in once with my 20 year-old daughter and my 17 year-old step-son in the car. They both love music and listened as they texted and talked, but all ceased when "The Blue Train" ran for a few seconds. So, do yourself a favor. Rediscover Linda Ronstadt with an earful of "Feels Like Home".
