Paul Tucker spent many years in Newcastle trying to make big time in music and after several years finally sold all his musical equipment and studied for a degree in French and German. After graduation he found himslef with no active work to pursue and he took up working in a Newcastle night club. Over the years he retained one song he had writen, Ocean Drive, which he could play but couldnt sing. Determined to produce a record he put up "singer wanted" posters around Newcastle.

Also in Newcastle was Tunde Baiyewu who had just qualified with a degree in accounting and was working in a local bar. A friend who had seen the posters around Newcastle had previously heard Tunde singing along to the Gap Band. He recommended Tunde should pursue the option of singing. The two met up and Tunde immediately identified with Ocean Drive.

After an initial recording session, the balanced mix of European and African styles created the unique blend that Paul Tucker had been looking for. Demo tapes were quickly distributed and after November 1995 a release of Ocean Drive entered the UK charts. Sales never really peaked and Polydor actually deleted the record from their overseas catalog. Then a re-release of the bands single "Lifted," began climbing up the British charts and finally entered the top 5.

Since then Lighthouse Family have enjoyed a healthy UK following. To date, the album has sold nearly 2 million copies at home and is now getting recognition in the US.

Ocean drive. Thats my very best. I can only think of few songs that rival the artistic combination of Paul and Tunde. I remember back in 1997 while i was trying to get into medical school and going through rigorous preparatory work, just listening to the song gave me lots of hope. It is the song that defined that era of my life along with great hits like Michael jackson's thriller etc that defined other periods of my life. I think of the song and instantly, memories of that period come back to me, or i think of the period, and the song just comes back to me. Thats a powerful effect.

I got a text from my sister today that said..they played that song 'you and me forever' on the radio today and it reminded me of the restaurant. I replied 'what song? by who?' she replied The lighthouse family we used to play the casette all the time in the kitchens of my old restaurant. So i Youtubed it and then spent an hour listening to the tracks again ..wow id forgotten how beautiful these songs are ..how cool the guys looked ( no socks and cool suites ) and that must have been thirteen or fourteen years ago? Are they still together? still gigging? i want to see them! Good times and good tunes ..thanks Lighthouse Family .

Like a Dream come true | Reviewer: belinda low | 4/13/09

I first heard this in one of my cycling classes and thought it's a gospel group or family as the name and songs suggest...You have added me as another fan. Keep up the good work of giving us 'listenable' stuff that are clean, fun, and healthy!
