Life Less Frightening Lyrics
Artist(Band):Rise Against
Suffering from something we're not sure of
In a world there is no cure for
These lives we live test negative for happiness
Flat line, no pulse, but eyes open
Single file like soldiers on a mission
If theres no war outside our heads
Why are we losing?
I don't ask for much
The truth betold i'd settle
For a life less frightening, a life less frightening
I don't ask for much
The truth betold i'd settle
For a life less frightening, a life less frightening
Hang me out to dry I'm soaking
With the sins of knowing
What's gone wrong but doing nothing I still run
Time again I have found myself stuttering
Foundations pulled out from under me
This breath is wasted on them all
Will someone answer me?
I don't ask for much
The truth betold I'd settle
For a life less frightening, a life less frightening
I don't ask for much
The truth betold i'd settle
For a life less frightening, a life less frightening
Is there a God tonight?
Up in the sky or is it empty just like me (Just like me)
A place where we can hide out from the night
Where you are all I see (Where you are all I see)
So blow a kiss goodbye, close your eyes
Tell me what you see (Tell me what you see)
A life that's set inside this dream of mine
Where you are all I see
I don't ask for much
The truth betold I'd settle
For a life less frightening, a life less frightening
I don't ask for much
The truth betold I'd settle
For a life less frightening, a life less frightening

Review about Life Less Frightening
I think.... | Reviewer: Cal | 3/9/2008I think that the song is about how messed up the world is for people being in war. The guy has been in war, but i dont belive him to be a soldier i belive him to be a native in a country that is been invaded and hes been capted.
What I think the song is about | Reviewer: Andrew | 2/5/2008
I'm pretty sure the song isn't about actual war because he sings "there's no war outside our heads" meaning that the only war being fought is the one inside his mind - which is an emotional one. He also sings "LIKE soldiers on a mission," not "we are soldiers on a mission."

This song is obviously a struggle with one man riding with/wanting death. He views the world as a plague, and the evil things that happen when evil people do evil things. The man wants a world with no evil and no war. The last verse where he says " Is there a God tonight..".. In that entire verse he is talking about God and Heaven. "A place where we can hide from the Night.".. "Place" Meaning Heaven.... and the "Night" meaning Hell. "Where you are all I see"... reference to God himself? Thats what I take it as... almost like he is having a conversation with God, and wanting to be dead and in Heaven, rather than finish his life on earth.
Great Song. | Reviewer: Bryan J | 1/12/2008
I think its about him departing to join a war.
And he starts to think that the world would be better without it and he starts wondering why God would let this happen, hence the "Is There A God Out Tonight" part.

ok guys. | Reviewer: shannon | 11/16/2007
what strikes me when i listen to the words of this song isn't about actual wars, or about the world around them either.
its about self battle, dealing with the struggle to be happy that so many people in this world lack.
its about trying to find a purpose for life.
about god and if he's real.
its no real war, its symbolism.
he's battleing with himself.
great (: | Reviewer: mina | 11/3/2007

A Life Too Frightening | Reviewer: Sam | 11/1/2007
Sorry DreDigital, but i think you are being way way too analytical. I think this song is more simply about him and his band fearing the way the world is today and wishing to live a more simple, safe, and happy life. This also relates to a line from another one of their songs where they say that they don't fear death, but they fear living in this world.
Introspection?? | Reviewer: DreDigital | 10/1/2007
This song need not be so literal. Consider the possibility that this is more generally about human suffering and existence, not actual wars. Furthermore, it seems to echo concerns that are brought to light through serious introspection and self reflection. Perhaps this is a mental war with one's self? The "sins of soaking in what's gone wrong" verse seems to indicate a lack of action in spite of self-awareness. It's worth considering that the verse about God and 'you are all see' is also self-reflective in a kind of existential way; perhaps wishing for the impossible chance at a simple life without any uncertainty, or personal responsibility.
"Is there a God tonight?
Up in the sky or is it empty just like me?
A place where we can hide out from the night
Where you are all I see.
So blow a kiss goodbye, close your eyes
Tell me what you see
A life that's set inside this dream of mine
Where you are all I see."
This reminds me of mild self-deception combined with self-reflection. In spite of trying to 'hide' from one aspect of himself (the night), he ends up seeing himself anyways. And perhaps becomes his own God as well.
Way too much existentialist imposition on this interpretation, heheh. Grain of salt, as with everything.
