Letter To Dana Lyrics - Sonata Arctica

Review The Song (17)

Dana, my darling, I'm writing to you.
Cause your father passed away, it was a beautiful day
And I don't want to bother You anymore,
I used to hope you'd come back
Not anymore, Dana.

My eyes might have betrayed me, but I have seen
your picture on the cover of a filthy magazine
And I think my heart just cannot handle that
Dana, my darling, would be so bad?

Dana, my darling, I'm writing to you
Cause your mother passed away it was a really rainy day
And I didn't mean to bother you anymore.
Your mother wished - Come visit your father's grave, Dana.

Your father disowned you, because you have sinned.
But He did forgive you in condition he was in
And I hope you will do those things anymore

Dana, My darling, I'm waiting for.

Little Dana O'Hara oh, Dana my Dear,
How I wish that my Dana was here
Little Dana O'Hara decided one day
To travel away, far away.

No, you can't surprise me anymore
I've seen it all before
But it seems I cannot let you go
Dana, Dana, Dana, Dana!

And I think that I told you, I'd wait for you forever.
Now I know someone else is holding you,
So, for the first time in my life - I must lie
Lie's a sin, mess that I am in,
Love is not the thing I feel now
I promise you: I won't write again 'till the sun sets
Behind your grave.

Dana, oh, Dana, I'm writing to you
I heard you passed away, it was a beautiful day
I'm old and I feel time will come for me
My diary's pages are full of thee

Little Dana O'Hara oh, Dana my Dear,
How I wish that my Dana was here
Little Dana O'Hara decided one day
To travel away, far away.

Little Dana O'Hara oh, Dana my Dear,
How I wish that my Dana was here
Little Dana O'Hara decided one day
To travel away, far away.

Little Dana O'Hara oh, Dana my Dear,
How I wish that my Dana was here
Little Dana O'Hara decided one day
To travel away, far away...

I have ever been in a relationship and it's so frustrating to read about you guys how you have lost the loves of your lives. But it's okay, keep talking, I can pretend that I have somebody. Or had.
Of course that wasn't the thing I wad going to talk about. No, I had to come here and share the feelings this song arose in me.
I heard about this song from my sister, who was whistling the intro-part. I got interested, played a spy for a while and sniffed out the name of that pretty-sounding song. I hadn't really listened to Sonata actually, even I had heard a couple of their songs before. (I might now sound a very bad Finn!!) At first I was like 'Nah, it will be just one of those cheesy love ballads' (though I am a very cheesy myself :D) Anyways, I pushed the play-button in Spotify and listened. When the song ended I listened it again.
I died. Almost. I wanted to cry and smile at the same time, and my heart was pounding as I had ran a marathon. Seriously. The words are so touching and... I fell in love with the song and Tonys voice, which sounded smoother and deeper (and better!) than I had remembered. Now I'm a fan of them and listen to SA every day in the bus. It gives me strenght for the long and stupid school day. Actually, I almost started to sob today while listening this, I was feeling very emotional. <3 Thank you, Tony, for writing this and all of your bands songs. You have really moved my tiny cold heart and filled it with hope and calmness. I'm glad I live in the same land as you and the other SA-guys! Please, don't do Samuli Edelmanns and move to somewhere called fucking Mediterranean. :)TÄTÄ ON SUOMI!

This song.. it just kills everything in me and rebirths it stronger.. I know this probably makes no sense to most of you, but the song is so dear to me, even though I've never felt anything like this.. every single time I listen to it I'm like "sweet satan... I died and reached hell's sweet relief" and even though I'm a satanist and I suppose they christians think this is a sin, and I have a baby cousin named Dana(my name is similar to Dana too), I can kinda understand how the man feels - he loved, and was betrayed, and lost his beloved, and I might be too young, but I have felt this all even though I haven't felt it about a single person but some few they were.. Also, I'm a writer and being one, I feel what my characters feel - and I have a certain character who fell in love with this pretty youth of a maid but she broke his heart, had her both parents dead and died herself so he was practically begging for death and really full of sorrow..
But nevermind, this song is simply awesome. It has great melody, first this flute, then Elias being the great guitarist - and Tony with his enchanting voice.. a thrilling song, indeed.

I listen to metal and rock alot, and I heared of Sonata before, but never actualy listen to them. I've started listening because I saw this song in profle as "favourite" of one person I respect alot. So I said, what the hell, let's do it. I admit that song, at first, was a little bit boring, but then I "got the point" of song and it's instantly became better. Then came the part "Little Dana O' Hara, oh Dana my dear" and I just blow my head off. Now I have all their albums on my computer, and I listen to then as much as time allows me.

This song is just perfect! I almost crying cuz I reminded about the love of my life, now I lost her but our love will be legendary cuz I'll love her forever, so "I think that I told you I'd wait for you forever" even when "now I know someone else's holding you".

Really sad... | Reviewer: oli | 11/8/08

A lot of Sonata Arctica's songs are made of sad feelings...(Shy, Tallulah, this one, The Misery, etc...)

but they can explain people's feelings in words that no one else can express.

I used to listen to them, and then i stopped, just to listen again to them more carefully afterwards, with a stronger experience behind me, and they still make me feel good, actually.

I think their songs are made for everyone, because everyone can put a name on the names they use in their songs. And that makes it all better !!

I really love them, and hope the number of adepts will rise !!

how ironic.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/24/08

this is the first tym i heard the music of SA and i must say they really a good artists. it's really a beautiful song.. It touched me just like all of you felt.. A very sad story though.. i pitied the man in the song cuz he really do love dana.. and the irony of that is.. my name is also dana.. =p

most touching song | Reviewer: richard | 2/20/08

A friend told me to listen to letter to dana cuz he did - and sill does - like this song a lot.

And well I've to say that i'm very surprised about how many feelings this song is made of.. and by telling a story within the text its even interesting to know what happens at the end while first listening...

Greets @ all who read

Excellent | Reviewer: Archerninja | 7/27/07

This is the best slow song ever... There is once part which is really what I had..

No, you can't surprise me anymore
I've seen it all before
But it seems I cannot let you go
Dana, Dana, Dana, Dana

And I think that I told you, I'd wait for you forever
Now I know someone else's holding you,
so, for the first time in my life - I must lie
Lie's a sin, mess that I am in,
Love is not the thing I feel now
I promise you: I won't write again 'til the sun sets
behind your grave

but then, I'd have to replace Dana with my ex's name...

Anyway, Sonata Arctica, good job..
