Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan Lyrics
Artist(Band):Nightwish
Review The Song (27)Print the Lyrics
Kerran vain haaveeni nähdä sain
En pienuutta alla tähtien tuntenut
Kerran sain kehtooni kalterit
Vankina sieltä kirjettä kirjoitan

Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

Sinussa maailman kauneus
Josta kuolema teki minusta taiteilijan

Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

Oman taivaan tänne loin
Anna minun päästä pois

Oman taivaan tänne loin
Anna minun päästä pois

(ENGLISH TRANSLATION)

Death Makes An Artist

Only once I could see my dream
Didn't feel the smallness under the stars
Once I got bars in my cradle
As a prisoner I write a letter from there

My Lord, let me come to you, let me become what my child thinks I am *
In you is the beauty of the world, of which death made me an artist
My Lord, let me come to you, let me become what my child thinks I am

My own heaven I created here
Let me get away
My own heaven I created here
Let me get away

---

* This sentence contains a wordplay ("become" and "come" are the same word in Finnish, "tulla".) Literally translated it would go like this:

My Lord, to you let me (be)come what my child thinks I am

"luoksesi anna minun tulla" means "let me come to you" and "anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee" means "let me become what my child thinks I am."

Most lovely | Reviewer: Lisäaika | 10/8/09

Good for you, Alexandria. I wish someone could have said that a long time ago.
This song does have a breezy, lost appeal to it, especially the cello bit in the middle. I really do love the lyrics, very well written and heartfelt.
I love all of Nightwish, I think it's more Tuomas as the backbone of the band, writing the music and lyrics...Nightwish isn't gone. The 'new' Nightwish has some really great songs as well. Tarja couldn't have had that effect on Sahara as Anette did.
Anyway, great song. Five stars.

Okay, seriously guys. | Reviewer: Alexandria Raybrandt | 9/22/09

Stop bitching at each other about the singer issue. Why can't you people, y'know, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC and stop complaining about what might have needed to be done? Sure, some people were disheartened and some not so much, but SERIOUSLY? Get over it. It's DONE.

I listen to Nightwish because I like their music. I like all their music, old Nightwish and new. I don't see why people continue to complain about an important issue with the band that they needed to resolve in order to stay alive!

I'll make it simpler; if you like new Nightwish, but not old Nightwish, then listen to the new stuff. Vice versa? Listen to the old stuff. Stop arguing about it.

The people who TRULY know the struggles of a band in a crisis can appreciate what Nightwish did with the singer issue. THEY WANTED TO KEEP THEMSELVES TOGETHER. If they hadn't done what they did, who knows what Nightwish would be now. Tarja or Anette, the people who love the band will still love them, because they're actually still able to play for us.

This is a tad and a bit of a rant, but I want you to do one thing for me.

Get in a popular band with a good fanbase and sound, and then watch what happens from the inside when one or more of the members stops putting their all into it. It's why I'm a freelance drummer; I'm not getting entangled in a mess that our so-called 'fans' will bitch about once we fix it.

I probably repeated one or two things in this damn small text box without me being able to notice, but if you know what I mean by this entire comment, then go by it.

Now, for my actual comment on the song.

It's got a nice, kind of 'windy' sound to it, if you know what I mean, and the lyrics are actually quite nice to listen to. This is one of the few foreign songs I have on my DSi when I listen to music, and I have the lyrics memorized in their original language and English, and can nearly recite them by heart. Overall a great song before Tarja's dismissal.

This, along with other songs such as Ghost Love Score (the orchestrated version of this is AMAZING!), Nemo, Dark Chest of Wonders, Over the Hills and Far Away and Phantom of the Opera are some of my favorite Tarja songs. Sad that Tarja won't ever be coming to Canada now, but I have Anette to look forward to, since she sings spectacularly in Amaranth, Bye Bye Beautiful, The Poet and the Pendulum, and a few other of her songs. Can't wait for the new album!

Someone tell Nightwish to come to Canada. Specifically, Nova Scotia, since NOBODY ever comes here... 'cept KISS, AC/DC, Disturbed and All That Remains. They were freakin' great, and they pretty much sold out. I got jealous of my friend because his mother runs the practice studio near where Disturbed/All That Remains was playing. He got autographs.

You know, I wonder if Nightwish would ever ask Tarja to play in a few concerts with Anette. It'd be interesting to hear that.

Anyhoo, long-as-hell comment over. Enjoy your brick of text.

ugh | Reviewer: Helena | 8/1/09

@Elitzer: Really? THAT is a rock voice? No; Sharon den Adel (of late, not in her earlier soprano days, i.e. Silent Force) has a "rock voice" (see Within Temptation's cover of "Paint it Black" for evidence.) Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and the Banshees has (had) a "rock voice". Emilie Autumn has a "rock voice". However, Annette, who is not high enough to be a soprano and, despite what you say, not powerful enough to be an alto or operatic in any nature (or even a mezzo-soprano!) has a pop voice. Annette's voice isn't distinctive. It's not a voice that makes you turn to your seatmate when you hear her singing on the radio when riding a bus and say, "Hey! Who sings this song?" It's not a voice that stands out, in short. THIS is a pop voice. Age Demi Lovato a few years, or Ashley Tisdale, or even Britney Spears, and give them a bit of a higher range. THAT sounds a little too much like Annette for me to be comfortable calling her "rock".

And sweet God, is anyone else getting tired of Tuomas's ego? Seriously, reading an interview that featured him, I could hardly breathe. His ego took up all the oxygen. Even Tarja doesn't have that big of a head... which, for all we know, could've been a concoction of Tuomas's anyway. Look, she's a singer, she has a right to be a little diva-ish.... Tuomas, however, resembles one of America's pop divas a little too much in his attitude.

Excellence | Reviewer: Jaqi | 8/1/09

I think that Nightwish did extraordinarily well on this song. The orchestral instruments made for a very rich and complex sounding piece.Tarja sang well and her voice reflected the heaviness and sadness of the song. It felt like a story was being told. An excellent piece.

There's No Competition | Reviewer: Elizter | 7/27/09

I still can't believe you all are still argueing about Tarja and Anette. Here's the facts people;

Tarja
1-Yep, she most definately is gone. FOREVER.
2-She's doing amazingly well singing solo. I mean she already has one or two CDs out already. And let's admit it, that's just HARDCORE.
3-Yes, Opera and Goth music may go hand in hand, and symphonic metal is cool, but it's time to realized Nightwish has become more Metal-metal.
4- Yes, you all believe(and I occasionally) she is the opera goddess, but She has a hard time singing lower notes, and and face it, sometimes she has a hard time projecting her voice.

Anette
1-No, her voice isn't pop-like. It's more of a Rock voice, though yes, occasionally it does sound a little popish.
2-Yes, her outfits may look weird, but hey, whatever works for her.
3-The guys all agreed that they enjoy Tarja better.
4-So she can't sing opera, but who cares? She can belt her voice out and can sing lower than Tarja.

Personally, I also believe that comparing two different singing styles is a bad thing to do. I mean how fair is it to judge someone because they aren't exactly like the last person.

love it | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/29/09

The bad thing is,we won't be hearing anything like this from Nightwish again as Tarja was replaced with a Swedish rather than Finnish singer. Its a real diappointment for those of us who adore this song.I've never heard the new woman singing so i won't say anything about it except for that if they replaced her because of her voice it was a huge mistake, but i'm sure there are valid reasons.

not the same | Reviewer: Nightwishfan | 6/26/09

Nightwish isint the same anymore now that anette is there its a whole diffrent group wise . Tarja will and is the only one right for nightwish anette is maybe a good singer but she dont got the soul Tarja putted into her singing

beautiful song but tarja...ugh. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/12/09

tarja was a diva, and i love all that she did, even though sometimes her voice annoyed me because it got a little obnoxious at times, but she was a bitch. though she was very well trained. i do agree that maybe anette wasn't the best replacement. she's a small town talent show runner up. nothing special about her voice. but it's better than having some kinda bitch goddess as a singer.

****!!! | Reviewer: sarah | 5/30/09

ok tell annette to try to sing this song, she's gonna sound like a bird, somehow she always do! i don't think she's worth nightwish and losing tarja is losing nightwish we all know nightwish doesn't sound the same anymore... maybe she sings well for a plastic singer but being in a metal band is not a pretty good idea! shame on nightwish! i want tarja back !

Great | Reviewer: Zeth | 4/17/09

Both Tarja and Annette are amazing vocalists. While there are many things Tarja could do that annette cannot. There are also many things that Annette can do, that Tarja cannot. The Poet and the Pendulum, for instance. There is no way that Tarja could sing that song with the same quality as Annette. I think the reason Marco sings more in "Dark Passion Play" is because Tarja and Marco's voices did not fit as well together as Annette and Marco's
