"Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is a song Bob Dylan wrote about someone who is dying. Intercessory prayer warriors sometimes pick up the thoughts and feelings of the person they are praying for. It is possible that this may be what happened along with the gift of creative writing for this song. Or, it may be that he is wanting someone with a "badge" to know that he's gonna die some day,too, like all of us. Law men risk their lives every day, some of them are good people, some of them are not. Judgment belongs to the Lord.
However, if this man that the song is about is a real person, he must be one of the better ones because after he says, "Mama take this badge from me, I can't use it any more." He says, "I feel like I'm knock, knock, knockin' on Heaven's door." Then, as death is drawing near, it may be that he feels like he has to show the Lord that he is serious about repenting over some of what he may have done with his guns. Why else would he say with his last breaths, "Mama, put these guns in the ground, I can't use them any more." What should it matter to him where those guns are, he can't take them with him when his spirit and soul leaves his body. Or it may be he said that because he knows how dangerous those guns can be. Therefore, being a responsible minded person, he wants to be sure they are put away in a safe place where no one will miss use them. . "That cold black cloud is comin' down". If he's seeing that, it may be the Lord is revealing the other alternative when a person is about to die which is outer darkness forever; instead of in Heaven's glorious LIGHT! The bible says, "And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire". The Lord says in Jeremiah 29:13 ..."ye shall seek Me and find Me when you seek for Me with all of your heart". Getting a vision of darkness when you are dying is enough to make some of the most stubborn hearts surrender to the Lord's mercy and grace which only can be obtained through the Blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. a masacre in 1996....See more on You Tubes and hear this sung by them. Open your
heart as you hear them sing, "The Lord is my Shepherd" and you may feel the presence
of His Holy Spirit anointing it, as I did.

Normally I don't listen to covers for songs as I'm always picky about how artists don't match up to the original feel of the song.

That being said, Bob Dylan moved me with this song but Guns rocked my world with it. Plus I love the added "hey hey hey hey yeah" from Axl.

I was born on the way to the hospital, and this song was on the radio. Guess that means I've been a GnR fan since birth.

This has to be one of GNR's greatest songs. Slash is a masterful guitarist and Axl's voice is fantastic in this song. So don't fucking bag on this song.

I have heard so many songs and heard the most beautiful lyrics, but never in my life have i heard something this beautiful, wow words cannt descride what im feeling or what i feel when i hear knocking on heavens door by guns&roses...

Alex and Heavy Fuel are God Damn pussies who don't know shit about good music. The end of the song where the church choir joins Axl in the chorus is tight you close minded fucks.

This song is great but gets old fast! The end with "KNOCK KNOCK KNOCKING ON HEAVEN'S DOOOOR" gets boring fast and usually I'll skip it.

The first half of this song is some of the best music that GnR made- easily compared with Sweet Child O' Mine, Don't Cry and Paradise City. Slash's guitair and Axl's vocals bring something special to this cover. Sadly, along with many of their songs it does get a bit repetative around the end, but don't let this spoil it.
