King Nothing Lyrics - Metallica

Review The Song (49)

Wish I may, wish I might
Have this I wish tonight
Are you satisfied?
Dig for gold, dig for fame
You dig to make your name
Are you pacified?

All the wants you waste
All the things you've chased

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there's no one around
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a name

Where's your crown, King Nothing?
Where's your crown?

Hot and cold, bought and sold
A heart as hard as gold
Are you satisfied?
Wish I might, wish I may
You wish your life away
Are you pacified?

All the wants you waste
All the things you've chased

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there's no one around
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a name

Where's your crown, King Nothing?
Where's your crown?

I wish I may, I wish I might
Have this wish I wish tonight
I want that star, I want it now
I want it all and I don't care how

Careful what you wish
Careful what you say
Careful what you wish, you may regret it
Careful what you wish, you just might get it

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there's no one around
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a name

Where's your crown, King Nothing?

Nothing

You're just nothing
Where's your crown, King Nothing?
You're just nothing
Absolutely nothing

Off to never - never land

would like to note, this along with many other of metallica's songs is amazing, but there are some people who have set me off saying death magnetic is bad, now unless you have been trapped under ice for the past 25 years, SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE!!!!!!!!! death magnetic was a great album courtesy of them, and another thing, you should all together, stop dissing what they do, cause I don't see any of you, doing any better in the music industry

I interpret it as the losing grip of Christianity over humanity; the held back of the promise land, the failure of the doctrine to create substance in this world and then accused of being nothing more than a name.

Respect this song and Metallica | Reviewer: Shahir | 4/21/12

I really like this song, it has a great message about people wasting their time on material things, but are they satisfied? Oh and all you haters who call yourselves 'true Metallica fans' should really think about this - a true Metallica fan would find a great song in every album. For me, in every Metallica album, from Kill 'em All to Death Magnetic there are a bunch of great songs (maybe less in Load, ReLoad, St. Anger and Death Magnetic) but there were. Songs like 'Some Kind of Monster', 'The Unforgiven II', 'King Nothing' were real good. So respect that.

The Eternal NoThing | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/14/11

Man spends his life wanting material things, things that appear to have substance but are constantly changing and non-enduring. When all of that is gone, Man discovers what is really substantial and unchangable: Nothing. Some people may interpret this as absence of substance, but zero (0) is an egg. It may not be a thing, but It still Is.

Really heart-felt review. Seriously, it provided the most insight into a song I have ever personally witnessed. But I sensed some anger in that review. You know, people can have their own opinions and it is their right to keep or express those opinions. I personally think you are the one who is PMSing here. Maybe YOU should take a midol. by the way, your spelling was horrendous. Maybe you should consider reviewing it before you make a post next time so you don't look like an ignorant jackass (it's "release" not "relece" and it's "else" not "elce"). But anyways that post really did raise people's respect for you. It sounded very well-educated and thoughtful. Anyways, great song. Awesome lyrics off of a great Metallica album.

P.S. Death Magnetic wasn't that great. That's my opinion. People like you really are a great expression of the depths that the etiquette and knowledge has plummeted to.

Metallica kicks ass | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/25/11

Metallica was, is, and still the best Heavy Metal band in the world.
At least no artist or singer in the world has some Hard-Ass Power Vocals as James does. His voice gives you the chills, try listening to him live on S&M in the song: The Thing That Should Not Be

Mmmmk... | Reviewer: TTardif3@comcast.net | 3/15/11

So you see the people who go nerd rage and troll in the comment sections of Metallica songs. You also see the people that get angry at the opinions of others. Well... if you get that mad when you read other people's comments... stop reading them. It would save you an ulsur and save us from an ear ful of bitching. (oh and the song is awesome)

stop bitching and take some midol | Reviewer: metallicarabbit | 2/19/11

ok im tired of ppl searching for a metallica song just to troll the coment section. And to post shit like "its not their best work boo hoo cry cry. Death magnetic sucked wahhhh st anger is crap goo goo gah gah" SHUT YOUR TONE DEAF MOUTHS YOU FUCKING TWATS!! Stop fucking coming on here PMSing and go take some midol. No one cares that you think their stuff after 92 sucks (btw they had noithing in 92 retard the black album was releced in 91 and it was a few years later tht they started and releced load) and btw load, reload, st.anger and death magnetic ALL ROCK and were better than any thing elce releced on the radio at that time period. It dosent matter tht they changed thir sound they still rocked stop focusing and bitching about how you wish they still sounded like they did in the 80s....and if they did youd still bitch about it cuz haters gonna hate

my opinion | Reviewer: flamey234 | 1/26/11

sounds like a warning towards those who crave power, wealth, and other vices. it says "yeah, these things may seem great at first but as you age and life goes on, it crumbles and you begin making more enemies than "real" friends. when you're old, power and wealth aren't worth having over things that really matter."

I like the lyrics | Reviewer: RTA | 1/22/11

I think the lyrics are really insightful. This is what the lyrics mean to me: There's this person who wish for power, fame, riches etc. When he finally gets what he wished for, it doesn't turn out so great after all. So when he tries to order someone around, just so he can feel like a king, there's no one there. They left him 'cause he acted like a jerk. He's now feeling lonely instead. It was all for nothing. And so lastly he's "off to never never land" to dream of something new to chase after. So careful what you wish for, it might not be what you really want.

Metallica | Reviewer: Nate | 7/23/10

This song might be the most rocking song on Load because of the progression of how the power of the songs builds up and "crashes down" with the chorus but Metallica's new album is not bad it is just different from their older stuff. I'll admit it's not their best work but still the album shows a great new side of Metallica that alot of people have never heard from them. And it's not trash metal, some songs on the Death Magnetic are very rockin, it is different but still great Metallica.

Pretty sweet | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/23/10

I don't care for Metallica's stuff after 1992 (in my personal opinion, they are not nearly as good as they used to be) but this particular song right here is pretty rockin'.

Death Magnetic is Trash Metal, not Thrash Metal. Not one song on that album that I enjoyed.

King nothing | Reviewer: Alex | 3/11/10

Good lyrics. Definatley not the best drumming on lars's part. he could have spiced it up a bit. and i believe Metallica wrote the lyric at the end is a conversation starter, if its true, they have accomplished it.

Great fucking song. Metallica lyrics are clearly at their best. I agree with Leitchy. Kickass intro. And yes I've wondered that myself about the Enter Sandman lyric at the end. It sorta baffles me as to why that's there. But I found a book that might have the answers. It's called "Metallica and Philosophy". But anyway, all around amazing song. Hail Metallica.

Oh for the love of... | Reviewer: Leitchy | 8/7/09

Will you all stop bickering about Metallica vs. Megadeth. They are both great bands, they both have produced some of the most kickass songs ever. Stop spamming the review page and actually review the song.

Now onto my review. King Nothing is one of my absolute favourite songs, I love every part of it, especially the intro, all quiet and mysterious, then bass comes in nice and clear. It's a very effective execution in my opinion. The solo is pretty good, not their best but it's most certainly very enjoyable. I'll never understand the throw-out to Enter Sandman at the end though.

Does everyone understand the concept of review now?
