With apocalyptic themes and wicked rhymes rapper Killah Priest emerged from the ghettos of Brooklyn in 1995 with a guest appearance on Liquid Swords, the first solo album from Wu-Tang Clan's GZA (aka the Genius), Killah Priest's friend and mentor. Several other guest spots followed, including raps with the Gravediggaz and Ol' Dirty Bastard. Further pushing the boundaries, Killah Priest appeared with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion on their track "Greyhound Part 2."

Meanwhile, in 1993 'Priest had joined forces with Prodigal Sunn, 60 Second Assassin and Hell Razah to form the Sunz of Man, a Wu-Tang Clan affiliated East Coast rap group. The posse recorded a self-titled debut album, but it remains unreleased; however, after Priest's appearance on Liquid Swords, Wu-Tang released a Sunz of Man single, winning the group underground acclaim.

In 1998 Killah Priest released his long-awaited solo debut on Geffen Records, Heavymental. Heavymental was produced by True Master and the 4th Disciple and features appearances by Wu-Tang members Ol' Dirty Bastard, Inspektah Deck, and GZA.
