Kill Hannah Biography
Review The Artist (24)

Equipped with cryptic, dreamy lyrics and a femme lead singer, the "new wave-ish" pop band Kill Hannah evokes memories of Meat is Murder stickers on my high school locker and staying up late to watch new Cure videos on MTV's 120 minutes. Kill Hannah (Update) In fact, with their tight rhythms, driving guitars (Kerry Finnerty used to be in Certain Distant Suns) and faux British accent, this babyfaced Chicago quintet is not unlike the post-Japanese Whispers, pre Disintegration Robert Smith & Co.
Q101's James Van Osdol says, "I like them a lot, for many reasons. One of which being [that] they don't sound like anyone else right now. They are a total breath of fresh air, and I won't be surprised if they become the sleeper band in Chicago. I can see them getting snapped up quite easily."
Several recent setbacks (including the death of their drummer in December, 1996) have kept Kill Hannah from playing out much recently. However, a couple of talented producers are vying for the right to work on their next album, and most of the band members have recently graduated from Columbia College, which leaves them plenty of time to pursue their musical interests.

dead drummer? | Reviewer: Amanda | 9/16/11
If the drummer your refering to is garrett (which i believe ive been listening to kh before 1996) hes not dead. hes happily married with 2 kids. i talked to him last year at a concert. he just left the band when his wife became pregnant with their 1st child.

I've been listening to Kill Hannah for nearly ten years now, and no, I have yet to "grow out" of them. I love their new album, it's a perfect mix between their old and new sounds. One's musical preference is completely subjective. Listening to some relatively well-known indie rock bands doesn't make you a better person than Kill Hannah fans. We just have different musical tastes, and you're being a douchebag by implying that your musical taste is superior only because you listen to indie bands that most musically aware people know of. I'm sorry, but with that attitude, you're going to get your ass kicked by real indie kids who know much more about indie rock than you do. I am a straight male, who mostly listens to post punk and emotive hardcore (NOT "emo" music); still I really like Kill Hannah's music. There is nothing "gay" about wearing eyeliner or singing in a high nasal voice, as if being "gay" is something to be ashamed of.
Amazing! | Reviewer: EmilyTFT | 10/4/09
Wake Up the Sleepers is finally here! There are no words to describe how happy I am with this album! Each song is different, and in a good way - you can see how they draw different influences from different bands. There's no one else like them; they are my absolute favorite. You can connect with each song; each one is as good as the last. I couldn't ask the band for anything better. So buy it now!

First off, Kill Hannah and AfI don't sound completly similar because Davey and Matt have different voices. However, both bands do play a lot of power chords, mixed with layers of synths (more decemberunderground), and sometimes add programmed drums. They are also in similar genres, being the gay genre of wearing a lot of makeup and having homosexual haircuts. Kill Hannah has slowly gotten worst over the years. There new CD is ridiculous. I already know that if you wrote a positive review about these guys, you either know nothing about music, or your like 16 and your gonna grow out of it in a few years. Try listening to real music. Check out TV on the Radio, RX Bandits, Minus the Bear, The Mars Volta, Pheonix, The Strokes, old Bloc Party, Late Aprill, Santigold. Anything that isnt sooo cliche
amazing | Reviewer: Felicia | 1/14/09

blah | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/16/08
I think the music is good..but the lead voice sucks..and they look stupid.( i know that's beside the point, but do they ALL have to wear black converse, a lot of eyeliner, and the 'emo' hairstyle?)

MY PASSION <3
Agreed | Reviewer: ... | 3/6/08
met KH a couple of times now, have seen them three times and going to see them again soon as their are my favourite band.
i completely agree with "jessy" on what they're like.
However i disagree with previous comments that they are nothing like AFI. yes Davey does screamo but they do have the same intelligent dreamy lyrics and look to the band. THey have strong guitar mixed with synthy eltronic sounds making their genre unidentifiable just like AFI. They also have the same fans and i can easily see how they can be considered together. Davey Havok said he likes them anyway.
Tightness... | Reviewer: Jake | 1/18/08
Well first off, I hear Kill Hannah got a new drummer, and it is due to the fact that their old one died. Sorry to all of the Kill Hannah guys. It sucks losong someone, I know.
As for your music, awesome, I play guitar and drums, and am taking vocal lessons, I have written songs, and composed them. And after hearing Kill Hannah's stuff, being dumped by a Hannah my self, twice! I have been inspired to take my music to new heights!
Kill Hannah, you guys rock, and if I ever get a chance to really preform, your name will be mentioned in my insperation story/
peace out!
Uhm...Forgive The Interruption | Reviewer: AlabasterDoll | 1/12/08
AFI is of the screamo variety - this means Davey Havok's scream is harsher.
I will grant that some of AFI's lighter songs sound vaguely similar to the untrained ear but if you know any detail about Kill Hannah and AFI you would know that Davey Havok is a screamo/post hardcore vox, and Mat Devine is not.
Mat Devine's voice is a smoother sound. It has the harsh undertones but its not screaming like Davey Havok. More a whisper than a scream.
Please, feel free to learn something about tone, pitch and the various use of vocal cords before you attempt to critisize any decent band again.
