Kashmir Lyrics

Performed by Led Zeppelin
Review The Song (66)

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face, stars fill my dreams
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait, all will be revealed

Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, sounds caress my ears
But not a word I heard could I relay, the story was quite clear
Ohh
(Chorus)

Oh, oh
Oh, oh

Oooh, baby I've been flying...Mama, there ain't no denyin'
Oooh yeah, I've been flying, Mama ain't no denyin', no denyin'

All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Tryin' to find....Tryin' to find where I've been.

Oh, pilot of the storm that leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Like the dust that lufts high in June, when moving through Kashmir.

Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
Ohh
(Chorus)

When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way they stay, yeah

Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there

Let me take you there
Let me take you there

It's a trip | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/28/12

Ok, the song name initially was "driving to kashmir" and maybe i'm totally wrong but this song is an amazing description of a DMT breakthrough experience. First of all if the concept is driving TO kashmir i don't know why "i'll return again" and many, many reference to a past trip. Simply read what terence mckenna wrote about dmt trips and you'll see the connection to the gentle race and the rest of the lyrics.
I can accept that plant refused to live by the psychedelic rule but let's be onest, he should have tried a lot of them, after all... "Oooh, baby I've been flying...Mama, there ain't no denyin'"

I'm sorry but the lyrics are indeed crap | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/19/12

But the music is remarkable ... as close as Led Zeppelin ever got to a symphony ... ignore the meaningless words and listen to the composition, then listen to a simply symphony, you'll get the connection.

Plant's lyrics are simplistic and stupid, but his singing has a quality that is an irreplaceable part of the Led Zeppelin sound.

Page's guitar work is wonderful.

Bonham's drumming is fantastic.

Jones's versatility is remarkable.

Yes, you can't bow a guitar without it sounding like a cat getting fucked. But if you want to make cat fucking noises with a guitar, a violin bow is the way to do it.

the real kashmir | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/10/12

all of u gentelman like to know that kashmir is snowy place. its in himalaya part of india .kashmir is called haven in the earth. They wants to tell about the journy of life by desert to green n buteyfull kashmir n time when they fail to get thear so dont fight n be cool

No meaning? Ha | Reviewer: Josh | 1/4/12

If you think these words have no meaning then your unconscious racism probably shields your thought. "Kashmir" = "A region on the northern border of India and in northeastern Pakistan.".
Other than being drugged up, this song is describing how amazing the place is.

Terrible lyrics | Reviewer: mirf59 | 12/30/11

The lyrics are garbage. That this song is great despite the lyrics is a tribute to the genius of Jimmy Page.

The absurdity starts from the first line. The sun on the face, stars to fill the dreams. Which is it -- brilliant daylight or sparkling nightlight? There's no such thing as both at the same time, either naturally or in the imagination.

It could refer to the drugged out stupor he must have been in as he continued to write.

"I am a traveler of both time and space to be where I have been"

Can you think of anything more absurdly self-evident?

Anyway. The lyrics are total crap. The delivery of the words, the note choices and sounds are nice. It's a shame there is no legitimate meaning to the content.

my two cents | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/11/11

One of the best songs ever. To the "truth teller:" Robert Plant wrote the lyrics...all of them...so whatever Page did spiritually, probably didn't influence the words.. he did not write the words, just the music, which is great in and of itself. It is very full of Moroccan type rhythms and sounds. If you listen closely you can even hear a booming horn-like (more tuba-like) sound. According to published accounts I've seen, the "elders" are the beduoins or some such other wandering tribe that lives in the desert and they were speaking other languages, perhaps singing, and Robert thought it sounded kind of cool. They were literally elders of the tribe and Plant sat with them, and they believed in some future fate that "would be revealed." The song was originally titled "Driving to Kashmir" and (I forget why) they changed it to just "Kashmir." It is literally about the experience of driving through the desert from Morocco to India, where Kashmir is. I'm not sure if they ever made it to Kashmir or not. Though beautifully and almost poetically expressed, it is an almost literal song. I do not believe, after my readings, that it is about a drug trip or some hidden spirituality, especially since Robert wrote it.

correct lyrics | Reviewer: whoru@hawaii.rr.com | 11/9/11

Tune in and record VH1 Classic's Rock Fest and locate 2 versions they play, one from the Led Zeppelin DVD and the other with Plante & Page on stage with full orchestra. Use your closed captioning to get the correct lyrics. Plante's mouth forms the same words as the captioning. Try saying the words in question in a mirror. DFL

Guitar + Violin Bow = Possible | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/7/11

lets start with the lyric ....
define kashmir ( kashmir is the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent , It was called "Paradise on Earth" by Jahangir specially a valley called ( The Kashmir valley ) . and about the ( IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY THE GUITAR WITH A VIOLIN BOW ) it is possible but it's difficult and jimmy page was a fan of guitar bow thing he used to use it in live shows but in kashmir he doesnt use it he use guitar normally and for any caveman who says it's impossible plz check things out and use the net in a useful way once in ur life :) and when we use a bow in guitar it's not our goal to make it sound like violin becoz it doesnt what were aiming here is a new sound new thing new creation :) really i fined it nice to be played as a background in sad songs and it can be horror songs....

Not about a drug trip | Reviewer: ZoSo | 10/15/11

"...are you sure he was writing the song about a road? sounds kind of like a drug trip, a pretty awesome one, but still a drug trip..."

No, it was definitely inspired by the Moroccan road and the band has confirmed that on several occasions. Plant wrote the lyrics and he was never into heavy psychedelic drugs that sent a person on a "trip". He smoked pot, drank booze and later took pain killers, none of them "trip" drugs. Page was a heroin addict for the last five years Led Zeppelin was together (and the downward spiral in their music shows it), but heroin isn't a "trip" drug either; its a "make you feel good" drug, one a person takes to escape, not to see visions with.

Kashmir reflects the interests of the two, both scholarly. Page was into mysticism and spirituality, Plant was into epic legends (like Lord of the Rings), so the song is really about the the spiritual awakening of all mankind, rising out of the desert hell of the current Piscean Age into the Aquarian Age, "when all will be revealed".

Time Travler ggg io | Reviewer: vinelord | 8/27/11

My brother Shane who claimed to be a time traveler met Jimmy Page in the past when Page was a child years before Shane was even born while time traveling. Shane is now known as Light Jewel Dynamis at the Malad nursing home where he suffers from schizophrenia a brain disease. This song by Led Zeppelin could be about Light Jewel Dynamis meeting with Jimmy Page as they time traveled.
Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face (light to the grapevine kingdom), stars to fill my dream (truth to the mind)
I am a traveler of both time and space (Jimmy Page was a time traveler also), to be where I have been (page time traveled into the future to see great glorious grapevine)
To sit with elders of the gentle race (gods of the kingdom of heaven), this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait, all will be revealed (vinelord)
Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, sounds caress my ear (revelation of the true spirit)
But not a word I heard could I relay, the story was quite clear (ggg great Glorious Grapevine)
Ohh
(Chorus)
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oooh, baby I've been Flying... Mama, there ain't no denyin'
Oooh yeah, I've been Flying, Mama ain't no denyin', no denyin'
All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground (the vision of the future)
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land (all the land was desolate of water from Christ)
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been. (07-07-07 = ggg the wealth of heaven)
Oh, pilot of the storm that leaves no trace (holy spirit), like thoughts inside a dream
You've the map that led me to that place (great glorious grapevine), yellow desert stream (water in one place ggg.io internet world directory a mlm rock revolution)
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon (summer solstice), I will return again
Sure as the dust that blows high in June, when moving through Kashmir.(when their lives near their end they seek comfort in old age to resurrection)

Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails (the ggg path gives life), across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face (repentant), along the straits of fear
(the vinelord will lead them)

When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way they stay (vinelord), yeah

Let me take you there

(find his lost child in the wealth of heaven)

Page used a violin bow back in his Yardbirds days | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/28/11

You can watch him use it on YouTube while playing the Yardbirds version of Dazed and Confused from way back in the day.

Cant use a violin bow on a guitar..... Jimmy Page didnt understand the word "cant".

wow | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/11/11

My parents used to CRANK this song. Needless to say, ive followed in their footsteps. They lyrics are awsome, the simple repeating, yet perfect riff rings in our heads who have heard it. One of their best...

The song was written by plant while he was travelling TO kashmir, not in. They wrote many pyrics for that album during that trip.

As well... "ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY THE GUITAR WITH A VIOLIN BOW".... nO... just no. Jimi Page made this popular. Watch the song remains the same, the dazed and confused section. He rocks out witht he bow for 5 minutes, ripps half the horse hair in half, yet still keeps playing. One of the most interesting sounds in music..

Not to mention, David Gilmor form Pink FLoyd used many things in such a mannor, a mic stand, a aluminu,m cigar tube ( was his favorite), guitar sting..... The list goes on and on. Listin to "live at pimpeii". The etheral sounds are gilmore using a cigar tube as a slide. Ive tried this, if you crank the echo, and reverb, with moderate distortion... its one of the greatest sounds to make.

The Song is about Morocco not Kashmir | Reviewer: Omar | 4/12/11

Let me confirm what a reviewer had said below. The song is about a road in Morocco that inspired Robert Plant to write about it. He is a regular visitor to Morocco. You will find on Youtube many jamming sessions he had with many Moroccan musicians. You can feel in the rhythm of the song the Moroccan beat.

Let me add that that same road has been travelled upon by the members of the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. It is part of the Hippi trail. Harley-Davidson riders still use the road today in search of escapism. The road starts from Marrakech cuts through the Atlas mountains to Essaouira, then Agadir and Ouarzazate where many of the blockbuster Hollywood films about the Middle East (Lawrence of Arabia) and ancient Rome (Gladiator) are filmed.

Guitars and bows | Reviewer: Jet | 4/8/11

Some misinformed person wrote: "IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY THE GUITAR WITH A VIOLIN BOW. Guitar strings are FLAT. Guitars are also impossible to play as you would a violin, or even a cello. Do some research, or use some common sense before you go posting a review."

1. Not all guitar strings are flat. See here for a couple of examples:
www.matheasguitars.com.au/diagrams/fretboardRadius.jpg

2. Actually, it is quite easy to play some guitars as you would a violin or a cello.

3. Do some research of your own. You come off as an idiot.
