Formed back in -72 but was really the result of two bands
teaming up, Kansas and White Clover. This first line-up was
Steve Walsh, Richard Williams, Robby Steinhardt, Phil
Ehart, Dave Hope (bass) and Kerry Livgren (guitar). Kerry
and Steve both played keyboards. Kansas signed a record
deal with Don Kirscher in -74 after inviting him too their
gig at a local bar, and letting in people for free and
giving away beer to anyone. The queue was blocks
long.......
Created some kind of mega hit with the title "Song For

------ About the song The Wall performed by Kansas
I hope someone reads this and finds value in my thoughts.
I was also 49 at the time you wrote you review. I am now 50, looking at 51 during this montb of November. To me it is amazing that, "The Wall," a masterpiece of wisdom, was written by a man in his late 20's at the time. Let me share a piece of an email I sent earlier today:
--------------------
These songs were written by Kerry Livgren. Note the "marriage" of both religious and secular philosophies in the lyrics. Mr. Livgren wrote these lyrics/songs when he was in a time of transition. He's a "born again Christian" these days since the mid-eighties.
Isn't it amazing that transition brings the best out of all of us? If we were satisfied with the status quo, there would be no reason to change and the human race would never better itself. It seems that the greatest songwriters spoke of their ongoing evolution and change in the lyrics that they wrote. James Taylor, Kansas, The Beatles, Jim Croce, even Led Zeppelin were examples of this phenomenon. For whatever reason (perhaps growth and proliferation of our species?) we are attracted to the music and poetry that focuses on human growth and change and the process we all undergo both together and alone. Note that the songs I sent you from Kansas focus upon internal change and externalizing it, and, therefore, making the world, a better place. Making the a world better place begins by making ourselves better. It begins one person at a time.
-------------
I hope that all who read this both reflect on learn from the "coulda, woulda, shouldas," of their lives and focus forward on the "can, will, and should," of what is to come. It's never too late. I am just now figuring that out. You're never too young!

I think everybody reconizes something from themselfs in this song. To me personaly, I start thinkin' about the girl that I'm in love with, and the fact that she's already with another. The song makes me sad, but it is so beautifull I can't turn it off. 'All my dreams pass before my eyes..' this part especialy reminds me off her, mayby because I have so many dreams of her.

How many original members are still with the band? Names? New albums? Loved Kansas in my younger years and just recently started listening to my older music again. It's like experiencing a brand new group again!!

Ah! the music, the lyrics, the voice and poetry... truth of this song - has never been expressed better by any other mortal on this earh. Remeber, don't hang on, especially when things look dismal, walk away before we crumble and become dust in the wind...

The first time I heard this song, I was in the back of my boyfriend's father's car as he drove me home and I remember this song because the entire time, my boyfriend kept holding me and kissing me. I never heard the song again until today and it's almost been a year. I looked up the lyrics and now...gosh, I need to make a phone call. This song reminds me of him and back when things weren't so...fucked up.

i only had one of their songs "Dust in the wind" and i didn't realise that they were really good. I got some of their songs and now i love them. Classic Rock Is Best. A world without Classic Rock would be a Dead world.
I remember when first viewing the song on the video clip in 1977 (i was 19)and my mum commented that singer has a good voice!!!(that says it all!!)that was my first glimpse of Kansas, and that song...still one of my all time favourite songs (now iam 48) and comes from my favourite album of all time....my son (10) loves this song as well...Tony from Australia.

All these years later, at age 49, I have begun to feel as though "The Wall" may be my theme song.
The first verse is the sum of how I feel where I am in my life at this moment.
What I could have, should have done, is

------ About the song The Pinnacle performed by Kansas
If you appreciate real musicianship, you should see these guys perform live in their prime! Check out YouTube, these 3 songs in particular:
Icarus
Journey to Mariabronn
The Pinnacle
These 3 are all from Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, 1974-1976. That was a great venue for LIVE rock on TV. Live and raw, no lip-syncs, no gimmicks. Rock may have reached it's "Pinnacle" about then.
It is shame that no one knows good music any more, like Queen, or The Beatles, Eagles, lENIRD sKINARD, rOLLING sTONES,etc. But Kansas is freaking awesome. Kansas is freaking awesome, ROCK ON MY BROTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

------ About the song Mysteries And Mayhem performed by Kansas
Reflecting Kansas decidedly schizophrenic approach for this period, this uptempo rocker from "Masque" (1975) features baroque organ flourishes bedding down with churning overdriven guitar hooks that sound as if Gentle Giant were comparing notes with Lynyrd Skynyrd. However, the lyric, ostenably describing an "arcane nightmare", carries a classical theme that resonates through all cultures and eras; the emergence of the hero who must slay the dragon (the "Demon Foes" of "The Pinnacle"-- stay tuned) in order to embark on his mission. In "Mysteries and Mayhem", the nascent hero is persued by his Jungian shadow archtype, or "doppleganger", that dark fragment of our personality where our most disturbing impulses and tendencies are kept in check. To face down ones shadow, although a terrifying experience, is a necessary step in all our lives; otherwise the shadow overtakes us and we are "damned".

I am 35 years old. I like Rock and Roll and also ballads. This is a nice song played by Kansas. This song means everything to me, the day I will die, People of my family who have past away, deep thought, the beautiful that life is. We have just one life. Live as If you would die tomorrow. Love and do not hate.

------ About the song Crossfire performed by Kansas
The song "Crossfire" by Kansas captures the essence of the human spirit and its historical need for God's Son, Jesus since the beginning of human life. The song harnesses the emotions and penetrating emptiness of living without the redeemption of Jesus.
And like the song consistently states, we all will be caught in the "Crossfire" and will have to individually decide which way to go. The question invariably comes to will we make the right decision that brings life instead of death?
