Journeyman Lyrics
Artist(Band):Iron Maiden
Review The Song (15)Print the Lyrics
(Smith/Harris/Dickinson)

From the red sky of the east. To the sunset in the west
We have cheated death and he has cheated us

But that was just a dream. And this is what it means
We are sleeping and we'll dream for evermore

And the fragment remains of our memories
And the shadows we made with our hands
Deeper grey, come to form all the colors of the dawn
Will this Journeyman’s day be his last?

I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.
I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.

I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.
I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.

But the memory still remains.
All those past years not so strange
Our winter times are like a silent shroud

And the heartbeat of the day
Drives the mist away
And winter's not the only dream around

In your life you may choose desolation
And the shadows you build with your hands
If you turn to the light, that is burning in the night
Then this Journeyman's day has begun

I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.
I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.

I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.
I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.

(Spare your life and choose the destruction of time over yourself.)

In your life you may choose desolation
And the shadows you build with your hands
If you turn to the light, that is burning in the night
Then your Journeyman's day has begun

I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.
I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.

I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.
I know what I want, I say what I want
And no one can take it away.

Review about Journeyman

One of the top three best Iron Maiden songs!!! | Reviewer: redcougar67320 | 8/20/09

I won't say this song is their most intricate or technical, but it is one of their most soothing and moving songs. I love the fluidity of the simple chords, weaving in and out of each other....classic Maiden. The lyrics are ambiguous enough that one can apply them to many different things, and it's a showcase of Bruce's voice, whom I don't believe can do any wrong anyway!!! lol But for me, this song has personal meaning and it always soothes this savage beast's soul.....Up The IRONS!!!!!

Epic. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/7/09

This song is definitly one of their best. Might not be the best guitar, but the maturity and the poety is just amazing. If you listen to the symbolic lyrics, you can be inspired to do anything.

Was it inspired by a ballad?

amazingly done | Reviewer: Lud | 10/1/08

Like many others, this is one of my favorite songs ever, Iron Maiden just showed that they could do a perfect acoustic song, filled with beautiful lyrics that can shake you up. But there's something I would like to know, like others again: Bruce is whispering something juste before the last part and it would be cool if I knew what the words are..so if you know something about it..e-mail me please:)

One of the best Iron Maiden songs EVER. Especially, the electric guitar version is awesome.

If anyone can tell me what Bruce whispers, plz email me at athenva [at] gmail [dot] com by removing the spaces and replacing [at] with @ and [dot] with .

Love it | Reviewer: Adam | 1/14/08

Secret lyrics | Reviewer: Jimbo | 12/1/07

What does he whisper during the instrumental after the second time he sings "In your life you may choose desolation
And the shadows you build with your hands
If you turn to the light, that is burning in the night
Then your Journeyman's day has begun"?
If you listen very closely you can hear it. It's something about chains of destruction but I can't figure out the rest. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it if you let me know

3.5 stars | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/2/07

Why the fuck is everyone talking about fucking truth in the lyrics? There is none. It's a beautiful song but there is no deep inner meaning to it. I mean, seriously, its fucking journey

the best song | Reviewer: P_DOG | 10/18/07

i think iron maiden is one of the best bands out there and this has got to be the best song by them. the guitar is amazin and Bruce does a wonderful job singing it. thanx iron maiden for the great song

live over studio versions of journeyman | Reviewer: bill | 7/19/07

i have listerned to both versions and i think the death on the road tour live version at dortmort must be the best version. This has to be pinnicle of of maidens writing and dickenson was destined to sing it and they music interpratation is so fitting just makes the hairs stand straight
