Johnny was Lyrics - Bob Marley
Review The Song (5)
(Wo-o-o-o! Wo-o-o-o! Wooo!)
Woman hold her head and cry,
'Cause her son had been shot down in the street and died
From a stray bullet.
Woman hold her head and cry;
Explaining to her was a passerby
Who saw the woman cry (cry)
Wondering how can she work it out,
Now she knows that the wages of sin is death, yeah!
Gift of Jah is life. (life)
She cried: Ah-um, I - I know!
"Johnny was a good man," I - I know! (never did a thing wrong)
"Johnny was a good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good,
good, good, good man", (Johnny was good man)
she cried - she crie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ied!
Wo-ooh! Woman hold her head and cry,
As her son had been shot down in the street and died
Just because of the system. (system)
Woman hold her head and cry;
Comforting her I was passing by.
She complained, then she cry:
Oh-ooh-wo-ah, cry (ah-ah), yeah, I know now (ah-ah),
no I know, I know now: (Johnny was a good man)
Said I know, mm-mm-mm-mm-mm. (Never did a thing wrong)
Ah! Ah! (Johnny was a good man)
Can a woman tender care, she cried, (Never did a thing wrong)
Cease towards the child she bear? (Johnny was a good man)
Wo-ho-ho-ooh! Woman cry, woman - (Never did a thing wrong)
She cried, wo-oh! She cried, yeah! (Johnny was a good man)
Can a woman tender care
Cease towards the child she bear? (Never did a thing wrong)
Wo-now, cry! (Johnny was a good man)

We will overcome | Reviewer: Chuchu | 10/28/14
This is a very sad song of what happened then and what is still happening now. Lets continue to be conscious of the disruptive forces living amongst us and lets not loose faith. Johnny will rise again!

I fear n care for the childrens rights of today wish one day to start a childrens international health and educational assossation for the kids in need not to (stray- or in another words- wander n roam around without a specific direction! Maaan what i have in my heart is massive maybe more or as much as any human would hold in his inmer self while staying silence! I shall assassinate any whose on my way to complete my dream.
P.S. (To go astray) a verb used without object meaning to [deviate, as from a moral, religious, or philosophical course: to stray from the teachings of the church] from www.dictionary.com

amazing song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/24/11
whenever i hear it makes me feel like crying. Not because of anything personal, but because of the injustice we hava to face everyday while this corrupted system keeps getting stronger and stronger. I pray to Jah to help all the good men in this planeat.
I can relate completely | Reviewer: Chantal | 3/21/11
My brother was shot by a stray bullet, not even a year ago. I'd heard this song before but forgot all about it, until I heard it again just now. It was just a nice song to me before. Who would have known, hearing it again, would have such an effect now. My brother, Steve, was ultimately murdered by the system that failed him in every way possible. He was only 16 when he died. The only time "the system" did come through for him was to help pay for his funeral arrangements.
The best | Reviewer: Keez marley | 12/4/07
This song is one my favorite Bob songs it's so smooth and it shows the heartache and pain that the jamaican community went through
