That, on it's own in reference to this song does indeed make it sound bad, at least with the first half of the song, but I think, mind that it's what I think, is that he was meaning about the girl receiving a better life, not that her family was dead.

Aside from that, I believe that the song itself is very sad, but at the same time, very uplifting, it's one of my favourite songs.

when i was little my parents fought & my mom did drugs while my dad drank.i wld hide behind my couch all the time.no my parents didnt die bt i got tooken away.i <3 my new family very much bt i miss my other family. my mom still does drugs &my dad still drinks they r now splitted up. & the last time i asked 4 a pic i got one with my dad drunk.i hope all those kids that live like i did have such a happt ending like me<3ya all

Just because something is hard to swallow dose not make it garbage. There are many things in this world that we do not want to think about or know about, but that dose not mean that they do not happen. It takes a great songwriter to write about it, and a great artist to sing it. This is just my thought and we are all intilteled to are own.

this song is so sad i frist heard it on the radio four or five years ago and have bin looking for it ever sence and finaly fond it some how it makes me happy to lisen to it and not tear up is that sad but i think it has something to do wiyh the ending i love the song and hopes it helps the people who do that kind of thing to others and help them sober up no one else in my house likes the song but they think the same thing

it is very sad to hear this song. i have heard it so many times but never really looked up the lyrics. this song reminds me of my life in a way. my father was really abusive without the alcohol. but when he did drink he became worse. i watched him hit my mother every night. i always wished there was something i could do. when i was 7 my sister was 21. we had the same mom but different dads. come to find out my dad had abused her and sexually raped her. i lost my dad at 7 and he only got 6 months in jail. they had pictures and evidence i jus dont see the justice in 6 months for ruining a girls whole life.

This song is up beat and entertaining. It's romantic and cought my attention instantly. This is one of the best songs ever sang and hope to here more like it. Nobody else could have pulled it off. :)

Awful songwriting, terrible theme and an immoral songwriter. To put this in context: the man who wrote this son (Harley Allen) based it upon a forward email he had received. When asked about the legitimacy of the story he told USA Today: "We have no clue [...] but if it aint true, it ought to be." It takes a pretty despicable heart to wish that a song about a girl being abused, and then witnessing her parents murder suicide, would be true. This song is utterly terrible.
