The last biography was complete crap. John Butlers mum is American and his father is Australia, his descendants are traced back to Ireland also. He was born in the USA and moved to Australia around the age of 7. He lived in Pinjarra (small town bout 100kms south of perth) where he attended Pinjarra High. He has an obvious talent for music and began spreading this talent on the streets of Fremantle, particularly in the makrets, where if you are lucky enough to see one of his concerts he will most probably tell you fond stories of these times. He was discovered at these markets and has since released 4 albums and two Eps. Some of my favourites are Peaches & Cream, Groovin' Slowly, and Used to Get High. To correct nozar, and one of the Anonymous posts, this song is definitely not reggae. It doesn't follow reggae flow, the beat is quite definitely not reggae, and the instrumentation is lacking for it to fit into the reggae category. They do play a few reggae tunes, and the topics that Butler writes about are very much akin to the Rastafari ethos, but this is not a reggae song, and they are probably closer to modern bluegrass, or even funk, than they are to reggae. I would classify them as Jam Band, meaning that they don't really fit any particular genre, blending a whole lot of amazing influences. I rarely put on the radio but my friend wanted to listen to it so she put in on. This song came on and although I had heard it before, I had never payed close attention to lyrics (I wasn't a huge fan of the John Butler trio). I actually REALLY listen to the words this time and within 3 minutes I was on the computer downloading the song and trying to find the lyrics. The words are so simple. The song reminds me of "imagine" by John Lennon - simple words, powerful meaning. Although my feelings are still at a low, hearing this song and having the words 'all you want is what you can't have,' helps me in knowing that i'm real, it's life, other people go through thisd sorta stuff too, choose what you wanna do about.
