Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros Lyrics

The original Mescaleros line-up featured alongside Joe;
Martin Slattery, Scott Shields, Pablo Cook, Antony Genn and
Jed Lynch. After recording most of the first album Rock Art
& the X-Ray Style, Jed left to play on a Marianne Faithfull
tour. Smiley (aka Steve Barnard), ex Robbie Williams
drummer, was brought in. He had been due to team up with
The Eurythmics, only to let down by a last minute
Lennox/Stewart change of plan. With the Marianne Faithfull
tour never materialising, The Mescaleros were left with two
drummers - Smiley got More...

------ About the song Johnny Appleseed performed by Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros

the song is about jewish supremacism. strummer was a jew. he was saying how if the jews want their JWO, they should not kill all the workers, else how will the jew masters get served by the worker goy.

notice the "buick 49" and "dark angels" passage. Israel became a state in '48.

many jew musicians write cloaked lyrics about Israel and their anticipated jew world order.

------ About the song Mega Bottle Ride performed by Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros

This is my favorite song.

khazi is slang for bathroom.

balkan means to wail or ululate.

A Klein Bottle is a shape that can only be percieved in four dimensions.

Finally, 'in the discosphere like Kubla Khan' is a reference to Samuel Colridge's poem of the same name. He wrote it after having an opium induced hallucination.

This song has everything.

I loved this song..I only thank the show for making me aware that I already owned it! How sad is that? It was buried deep on my music hard drive!
This song was amazingly bittersweet as Joe sang it
at the end of Let's Rock Again, a documentary made shortly before his death..check it out! Wonderful.
I ended up building a whole cd mix around this tune.
Thanks Joe God Bless.

------ About the song Johnny Appleseed performed by Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros

John From Cincinnati first aired in 2007, Joe Strummer died in 2002. Joe did not write this song for the show and kept his religious views fairly private. It was chosen as a theme for the show for whatever reason, independently of Joe's intentions. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just don't try and read too much into the lyrics based on the show.

Most successful songs by the Clash were a result of a collaboration between Mick Jones (music) and Joe Strummer (lyrics). To give Joe Strummer credit as the driving force behind the band is a disservice to the other members. This is shown to be true by the fact that it took years before Joe Strummer could find musical success with another group (The Mesacleros).

To me Johnny Appleseed, like many of Joe's songs, is a song lamenting and celebrating globalization. Global-a-Go Go . If you like this song check out Streetcore - fantastic album!

------ About the song Get Down Moses performed by Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros

Saw him play with the Mescaleros at the Metro in Chicago. Met him when he got off tour bus, shook his hand and told him the clash were my favorite band, Sadly he died 5 months later. Strummer could spit in a cup and it would still be good music. Peace Out Strummer

This song has the biting social critique of the early Clash with the polish of a new recording. Good Stuff. We will miss you, Joe.

I think this song was released independently of any TV show. It may have been used after the fact.

I love this show!!! I love the song too. Can't believe they cancelled yet another good show! I DVR'd the repeats so I can watch it whenever. I too think John is Christ in another human form. Although in the final episode when they show Kai surfing he says " Kai mother of God" That was a little confusing. I wish they would rethink and keep this show going!

------ About the song Johnny Appleseed performed by Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros

i think the clue to the meaning from john was simple. "participate with your family in life" one of the clues about john's purpose is in john's last name "monad", looking up monad we find:

"What is a monad?

Monads are non-extended, soul-like, metaphysical simples. Every material that exists, according to Leibniz, is composed entirely of monads. These monads have no causal relationship to one another, or to any other monads, and are moved about (and appear to affect each other) through what Leibniz called pre-established harmony. In other words, without God overseeing and directing every action of every monad, the entire universe would fall apart.

Our souls are of a special kind of monad, termed dominant, or rational, monads. These dominant monads give us consciousness, which is a reflection on what happens to us, and which Leibniz terms apperception. All other simple monads have two basic qualities, appetite and perception, while some monads also have memory.

Monads are eternal, having existed since God created each one, indestructible, and immutable."
