Jane says
I'm done with Sergio
He treat me like a ragdoll
She hides
The television
Says I don't owe him nothing,
But if he comes back again
Tell him to wait right here for me
Or
Try again tomorro
I'm gonna kick tomorro
Gonna kick tomorro

Jane says
Have you seen my wig around?
I feel naked without it
She knows
They all want her to go
But thats O.K. man
She dont like them anyway
Jane says
I'm goin away to spain
When I get my money saved
Gonna start tomorrow
I'm gonna kick tomorro
Gonna kick tomorrow

She gets mad
And she starts to cry
She takes a swing but
She cant hit
She don't mean no harm
She just don't know
What else to do about it

Jane goes
To the store at 8:00
She walks up on St. Andrews
She waits
And gets her dinner there
She pulls her dinner
From her pocket
Jane says
I never been in love
I don't know what it is
She only knows if someone wants her
I want them if they want me
I only know they want me

She gets mad
And she starts to cry
She takes a swing man
She cant hit!
She don't mean no harm
She just dont know
What else to do about it

Review about Jane Says

Jane's still kicking | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/4/09

I wrote a paper on this song and did a lot of research on it so here is the real story coming from Perry and Jane herself. That's right, she is still living in California and is 46 years old now. Her real name is Jane Bainter. She was a roomate of Perry's and a friend of Eric Avery's. She did have an abusive boyfriend/dealer named sergio. If I remember right, there were about 8 or twelve living in the house. Everytime something went wrong in the house or something came up missing, the other roomates would attribute it to "Janes Addiction" by virtue of the unsavory characters that would come to see Jane, ie... dealers, junkies. They eventually kicked Jane out of the house with Perry being one of the sole dissenters in the group. Perry always liked Jane, not romantically, but also saw her as a tragic figure. Jane is what you would call a "white collar" junkie, having graduated from college. She would put on a suit by day and work a professional job, by night she put on a wig, went to the clubs and was usually almost always high. She was a functional heroin addict, if there is such a thing. She was not a prostitute. The song is only about the promises an addict makes to themselves and others. Going to kick tomorrow, save the money to go to Spain starting tomorrow. Everything is tomorrow. The trip she takes to St. Andrews is not to trick. Anyone with knowledge of that area knows that was the place to cop any drug you may ever need. This is not my interpretation. I thought the shit meant something else too for the first 15 years I heard the song. But through tons of interviews with the band as well as reading the book "Whores." which is the History of Janes Addiction, I discovered the real story. If anyone would like to see what the actual Jane looks like now, you can find her MySpace page at whatever that fucking mySpace prefix is with URL Jane_Bainter. Oh by the way, she did eventually make it to Europe and has been clean for years. So for all to rejoice in, the story of Jane has a happy ending.

Sergio was her dealer. She only really needed him for a fix. He knew that, so he would fcuk her then beat her when she was high. In those moments she was so numb she didn't care as long as she was high.
If Serg came over when she was out doing her tricks on her small patch in St Andrews, she would ask her housemate Perry (another Sergio customer) to tell him to stay, so that she could borrow her next fix. Often Serg would advance her, but would always later need the money. When Jane didn't have it, Serg would make threats that he would pawn her TV (her only means of escape). At dusk in her patch, wigged in a hidden persona and eating a stable diet of candy bars, she always felt a sense of belonging amongst the other girls and hobos,
Being part hispanic, Jane constantly talked of going to Spain to discover her heritage and for-fill a yearning to visit Salvador Dali's Gallery in Barcelona. She always felt that she was apart of his each and every paint stroke.
She never made it to Spain and like so many others, on the needle she was crucified to become just another Jane Doe

good song | Reviewer: morgan | 11/26/08

It reminds me of my first romance in junior high. I was pretty young then but I could tell it was obviously about drugs and prostitution. It makes you feel for Jane and that's why its a powerful song. It has a romantic sound but it is not a love song, more a portrayal of their Hollywood surroundings. This was the band's backdrop and source for much inspiration. The song "Whores" is a good example, too.

Interpretations | Reviewer: rar | 3/11/08

She was a roommate of Perry Farrell's, I think. You're right about drug addiction (I mean, the band's NAME is Jane's Addiction, how much more obvious can it get), but everything else, I'm not sure. And I don't think he loved her.

kick tomorrow | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/27/07

I think that means she'll kick her drug habit tomorrow, like "I can stop any time I want, I'll stop tomorrow". I always thought Jane was a lost soul, addicted to drugs, had a boyfriend who beat her, went to a church (maybe homeless shelter??) for meals, basically someone who was a hair away from being a homeless crazy bag lady...but that is only my interpretation :)

HUH!?! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/16/07

can anyone PLEASE tell me what this song is about? she's basically a prostitute...right? and i guess he loves her..kinda like Roxanne by police, and thats why she doesn't know what love is, and he's jealous that gives gonna sleep with some guys hence " But thats O.K. man
She dont like them anyway " yeah, i really don't understand it.. but WTF does it have to do with drugs?
