Review about James Taylor songs
Touched my heart | Reviewer: Rosie the traveler
------ About the song Fire And Rain performed by James Taylor

Traveling across the US this spring...stopped in Cortez, Co and went to the American Legion where you can dance for free on a Saturday evening.7-10pm. Thought I saw a fellow that I'd danced with in Dolores, Co about 10 years ago on a balmy night in July. Not him---his younger brother. He had passed a couple of years back. Car wreck. "Always thought that I'd see him again!" Rest in Peace.

A f----n masterpiece | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Enough To Be On Your Way performed by James Taylor

Agree with all the comments and lyrical callouts posted here however the line that hits me most-oddly enough is the reference "til I pulled my big boots on"
I may be way off, but it just sounds like something from childhood that a big brother mightve said to a little brother--and just captures the caring and love between brothers. The other thing that rings up the poignancy of this tune is going back to New Moonshine and listening to James warning Alex to stay aware from his old "friends" after leaving rehab in the song "When You Come Home"

Caroline in my mind | Reviewer: Maksudul Haq Rumi
------ About the song Carolina In My Mind performed by James Taylor

This song sings of success and victory as finally being able to go to the place one always called home.

This song relates to me as finally sailing for the place of my desire, where first dreams were born, fond memories created.

When I moved away from my childhood place to attend University, I more than often missed the sun rise, blue sky and the setting sun and persons I shared my memories with-- I always wanted to go back and be there.

LOVE Jelly Man | Reviewer: Rebecca Elliott
------ About the song Jellyman Kelly performed by James Taylor

Jelly Man is one you need to wrap your tongue around, like in "Mares Eat Oats" only 10x better! Lyrical and performed in the JT Oh-So-Well form, it stays with you. Heard it performed like 25 years ago and have searched for it ever since. It's better than I remembered.

------ About the song The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance performed by James Taylor

I love James Taylor's version of this sone, but what is listed above is not quite correct for his version. Interesting. I have never heard the entire Gene Pitney (?) song--which I guess is the original--and the lyrics here might be correct for Pitney's original. I wonder why Taylor changed them because I like that fourth verse about only one man coming back--Taylor doesn't have that at all.

Grace, the millworker | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Millworker performed by James Taylor

Studs Terkel's book was made into a musical. 1000 years ago I was cast in this musical (my last performance) as Grace, the millworker--quite an honor to sing the song, written by JT. I believe that all songwriters for the musical were to use the words of each character (verbatim) from Terkel's interviews. Grace's monologue is quite sad and it wasn't an easy role--i saw eddie vedder live in boston and he did a cover--great job. Ironically, I own my own business and moved it into a refurbished mill...it all comes full circle.

------ About the song Sweet Baby James performed by James Taylor

I once lived just north of West Stockbridge, Massachusetts and happened to travel the length of the Mass. turnpike one early, frosty morning in December following a light snowfall. Now I live in the west, only miles from the prairie where cattle can still graze. I just hope now, I don't hear Elton John's, "Rocket Man". I'm too old to travel anymore.

Just found this thread, some years on from your post in 2008. I hope your still together, if you are, I really do wish that you are more together than in 08. Seems to me you need to see what's important in life. This is a beautiful song, and like many really good songs, their beauty is manifested in the ears of the beholder. Take it as you hear it, and let others hear it as they will.

JT -- you may never know how your music impacts others - but it does... | Reviewer: Jon Sercel
------ About the song Fire And Rain performed by James Taylor

This song has a special place in my life. You see- I was always going to fly--- My father was a retired AF fighter pilot and I loved him and wanted to be just like him... I even entered the AF academy to get my 'flying machine'. I had a love too - a gal there and I dreamed - big sweet dreams.
But - after my 3rd year there I was dis-enrolled - it was due to an undiagnosed closed head injury. I went home and my dad and I got into a big argument about why I hadn't tried harder (neither of us knew the real reason then). He left on a business trip the next day and before we had resolved our differences he was killed in a car accident that week. It rained the day of his funeral - and soon after, I lost the girl too - That week and that year was my - Fire and Rain- I lost a lot that week and more in the year that followed... But I got back in the academy a year later and I found a real friend. After Pilot training my medical issues were discovered and I had surgeries to get things corrected. I had a career in the AF and I married my best friend - who really loved me for who I was. Our daughter is an AF pilot now so I have had a few things come my way this time around now... JT your music is tight - Thank you...
