Ize of the World Lyrics - The Strokes
Review The Song (23)
I think I know what you mean but watch what you say
'cause they'll be trying to knock you down in some way.
Sometimes it feels like the world is falling asleep.
How do you wake someone up from inside a dream?
Your mind would wander and search for its place in the night.
Your body followed this feeling like following light.
Once that your music was born it followed you 'round and then it gave
your activities meaning and let you be loud. You're sad but you smile.
It's not in your eyes. Your eyeballs don't change.
It's the muscles around your eyes.
An egg to fertilize,
A pulse to stabilize,
A body to deodorize,
A life to scrutinize,
A child to criticize,
Citizens to terrorize,
Generations to desensit-.
Your dreams are sweet and obsessed and you're overworked.
You're overtaken by visions of being overlooked.
How disappointed would D.(ead) I.(dealistic) D.(esperate) I.(inventor) P.(ioneer) P.(hilosophers) be
to see such power in our hands all wasted on greed?
Am I a prisoner to instincts
or do my thoughts just live
as free and detached
as boats to the dock?
Just like when music was born and detached from your heart.
Is your free time to free minds or for falling apart?
Night after night you turn out the light.
You don't fall asleep right away.
"Are we... are we done?"
A desk to organize,
A product to advertise,
A market to monopolize,
Movie stars to idolize,
Leaders to scandalize,
Enemies to neutralize,
No time to apologize,
Fury to tranquilize,
Weapons to synchronize,
Cities to vapor-

Most of the lines in the songs truly describe the life of any ordinary man. For example, "You're sad but you smile, its not in your eyes"....Well, how true it is...We are sad but forced to put on a mask of happiness.
Well, Strokes strike the right chord with these lyrics...Wonderful

On the top five of my favorite songs EVER.
Those are definitely the ize(s) of the world. The Stroke's message is conveyed strongly, effectively, and with so much emotion that it just opens your eyes to the truth of our society and the world.
No words to describe how much I adore this song! :]
It just makes you think | Reviewer: cami | 3/26/11

Could it also be that this also be interpreted to sound like "eyes" of the world because it seems to be all we focus on? Most of the stuff that he talks about are rituals that we perform daily. The actions that he talks about are not abnormal; we are a nation of paranoia, we focus on the external, we're a stressed society, and we're greedy people. Anywhere you go it's the same thing. For humans, the eyes are a heavy thing to depend on so it makes sense (to me) to deduce that we also depend or take part in the things that end with "ize" in his lyrics.
Amazing | Reviewer: aw | 5/18/10
One of the best songs ever written. Apart from the music which is incredible with that crazy guitar, the poetry is increadibly creative and moving. Seriously, one of the most striking and creative pieces ever written by anyone ever!

This song is amazing!
I noticed that the ize in the title of the song is at the end of every line in the chourus. So -ize is kinda like the end. So Ize of the World is like the End of the World. And that's what the song is sorta about. Right?
feeling like .. | Reviewer: me | 10/20/09
this song makes me feel like a little guy from inside my head wants to jump out and just cry out at the world..

just, WOW. | Reviewer: izzzy, | 1/25/09
This is by far the BEST Strokes song out there, and trust me when I say I'm the Strokes' #1 fan. Every single one of their songs is truly amazing, but this one just makes me feel every emotion all at once. It's so overwhelming. The words, the amazing solo, the drum beat, everything. It's so beautiful, it makes me cry. The Strokes are the greatest band ever, no denying that. <3
Best strokes song | Reviewer: Samuel Bryant | 10/10/08
This song is soo freaking ill. It captivates a lot of very true and relevent social thought in a witty way that keeps the old protests behind the words very new. I love the solo too. Defentantly my favourite strokes song
wow. | Reviewer: Kbone | 4/8/08
These guys just get it. They know how to convey their message perfectly. Definitely one of the greatest bands of all time, and you can't forget how beautiful the "Weezer-esque" guitar solo. Very Rivers-y. Love this song.
