The Allman Brothers Band It's Not My Cross To Bear Lyrics

Last updated: 06/29/2012 11:00:00 AM

I have not come, yeah ... to testify
About our bad, bad misfortune ... and I ain't here a wond'rin' why
But I'll live on ... and I'll be strong
Cause it just ain't my cross to bear

I sat down and wrote you a long letter
It was just the other day
Said, sure as the sunrise, baby ... tomorrow I'll be up and on my way
But I'll live on ... and I'll be strong
Cause it just ain't my cross to bear
Oh, no

Ohhhh, but I'll live on ... and I'll be strong
It just ain't my cross to bear
Yes, now, baby

But in the end, baby ... long towards the end of your road
Don't reach out for me, baby ... I'm not gonna carry your load
But I'll live on ... and I'll be strong
It just ain't my cross to bear
Yeah ... yeah
I found someone else, baby

Still moves me after all these years... | Reviewer: SGT | 6/29/12

Greg Allman's version from "I'm No Angel" is amazing. So powerful, so loaded with sadness and resolve, it echoed the feelings I was experiencing at the time. It was the first time a guitar solo ever "talked" to me, let me know that I wasn't the only one that was moving on. That one is the definitive cut for me.

In the opening line of the song. "I have not come "Yeah" to testify"
I think that should read "I have not come here to testify" Deep Southern accents pronounce the word "here" as hyear. As in "Come hyear son".

Awesome tune... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/14/06

The one off of Gregg Allman's "I'm no Angel" in particular..."Don't Want You No More" is a GREAT lead-in to this tune...
