It's Not Me, It's You Lyrics - Skillet

Review The Song (4)

[V1]
Let's get the story straight
You were a poison
You flooded through my veins
You left me broken
You tried to make me think
That the blame was all on me
With the pain you put me through
And now I know that it's not me it's you

[Chorus]
It's not me it's you
Always has been you
All the lies and stupid things you say and do
It's you
It's not me it's you
All the lies and pain you put me through
sponsored links
I know that it's not me it's you
You
You
It's not me it's you, you

[V2]
So here we go again
The same fight we're always in
I don't care so why pretend
Wake me when your lecture ends
You tried to make me small
Make me fall and it's all your fault
With the pain you put me through
And now I know that it's not me it's you

[Bridge]
Let's get the story straight
You were a poison
Flooding through my veins
Driving me insane
And now you're gone away
I'm no longer choking
From the pain you put me through
And now I know that it's not me it's you

Another for-my-daddy song?! | Reviewer: KarinaKMJ | 5/23/11

Hymmm... I know that John Copper used to fight with his strict father as a young boy. I know something about it... and this song sounds just like trying to be something more than your parents. You leave your home, you're a Christian, you don't want to be mad, angry and sick anymore. You start to understand that it's them, not you. You're a good person, not a sarcastic, crazy someone like them. Sad, but true... and in the other song Cooper sings: "Your parents say everything is your fault, but they don't know you like I know you, they don't know you at all".

Nice song | Reviewer: Matt | 4/3/10

Just because their a religious band doesn't mean all of their songs are based on religious morales and story's. It sounds like it could have been a bad relationship gone bad would be the meaning. Its not about religion, because it just doesn't fit the song.

Awesome :D | Reviewer: toxic-inferno | 1/6/10

I actually disagree Jas. I think this song is speaking directly to either Satan, or more likely, to the sinful nature. If you look up Romans 7:7-25, Paul explains that we want to do what is right, but it is our sin inside us that we have let into our lives, that is actually doing it.

Fortunately, God's given me a lot to think about regarding Romans 7 in the last week, and then I discovered this song, which is just incredibly linked in.
I think the important thing about Romans 7 is that it isn't taking the blame off us, it's simply explaining why Christians are so twisted and messed up, because we have two seperate natures at work inside us; one wanting to do what is right, and follow God, and one that wants to sin. We're schizophrenic.

Please don't feel I'm lecturing anyone here, I just got carried away XD

Anyway, fantastic song!!

Cool song! | Reviewer: Jas | 10/9/09

You can obviously see the meaning behind this song, it's about teenagers and the problem with peer pressure and other sh*t that happens, with all the fights. It's about a kid stuck in the middle, but he doesn't know where to go for help, but tries to make his 'friend' stop it by telling him it's all his fault.

I love skillet, their new album is a lot better from their original stuff.
