It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door Lyrics - Underoath

Review The Song (37)

I've been up at this all night long
I've been drowning in my sleep
I've prayed for your safe place
And its time for us to leave

Time is running, its running on empty and the gas is running out
I've decided that tonight is the night
That I let love aside
Full speed ahead this seems to be the place
I've seen this once before
Planned perfection sought in my dreams
Hoping this would take you home

My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
Kiss me one last time

Around this turn where the cross will cast your shadow
The people will all gather
To remember such a day
Where the flames grew as high as trees
And the world stopped
It stopped for you and me

My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
Kiss me one last time
(Shut your eyes)
My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
(So hold on tight)
Kiss me one last time
(Shut your...)

I will now bring new meaning to the word alone
Endless nights of dreaming of life
And the days we should have spent here

Drowning in my sleep I'm drowning in my sleep
Drowning in my sleep I'm drowning in my sleep
(x6)

Glass shatters and comes to a halt
I thought we'd be there by now
I thought it would be so much quicker than this

Pain has never been so brilliant
I made sure you were buckled in
Now you can walk hand in hand
Hand in hand with Him

My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
Kiss me one last time
(Shut your eyes)
My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
(So hold on tight)
Kiss me one last time
(Shut your...)

Love story | Reviewer: Thomas | 10/2/13

I understand how every one interprets this song like in a car crash and a man killing his girlfriend and stuff but i just see a heartbroken story aboute a guy lossing his girlfriend to another man because he maybe hit her (my nuckles have turned to white) but wanting her to be happy even with another man (now you can walk hand in hand with him - ive prayed for your safe place) and he is unable to get her back (drowning in my sleep) and hes remembering how they were so good together (the people will all gather to remember suck a day were the flames grew has high has trees and the world stoped for you and me) he never meant to hurt her (pain has never felt so brilliant i made sure you were buckled in)

What this means to me | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/26/11

I understand what this song is really about, but to me this songs means so much more.
"Pain has never been so brilliant
I made sure you were buckled in
Now you can walk hand in hand
Hand in hand with Him"
The way I interpret this part of the song is: the first line stands for Jesus' suffering on earth. It was horrible and wrong but for the greater good of the world. But through all that God gave us the opportunity to be saved and to literally walk hand in hand with Him.

Drunk driving | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/21/11

This song is about a man, who decides that the world is evil, so he and his wife go out one night. But only one of them comes home. They were in a car crash because he was drunk driving, that's what "drowning in my sleep" means. So clearly the female doesn't make it out of the crash alive. "now you can walk hand in hand with him"

the truth | Reviewer: jamie havoc | 11/29/10

its about a guy who loves his wife and decides that the world is rotten so he tried to take both of there lives in a car crash, Glass shatters it comes to a halt, i thought we'd be there by now. incates the persons confusion why he survived but she didnt. drowning in my sleep could mean anything from crashing in water to a possible coma for her or him.

Well... | Reviewer: anonymous | 10/21/10

... From what I've been told by a guy who has worked with Underoath in the past, the song is about a past girlfriend of Dallas Taylor (yet was still recorded by Spencer Chamberlain) who was killed in a car accident, and his subsequent sadness/oh-my-god-i-can't-believe-this-is-happening feeling that threatened to overtake him later.

I don't agree | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/21/10

I don't think it has anything to do with turning the car on in the garage. One indicator is the "glass shatters and comes to a halt", which to me would be indicative of a car crashing into water. It's quite possible he took or gave or both sleeping pills.. "drowning in my sleep". And drowning must be a really painful and slow way to die... they say it takes 5-7 minutes for your brain to shut off when deprived of oxygen.
Just my opinion on the matter. Not that I really like dissecting songs, but that is my opinion on the review and my own thought.

I think | Reviewer: Caleb | 8/29/10

its about a guy whose girlfriend/fiance/wife gets killed in a car accident and he subsequently kills himself. I presume he does it by turning his car on in the garage and dying slowly of carbon monoxide poisoning (I'm drowning in my sleep... I thought we'd be there by now/ I thought it would be so much quicker than this). As he sits, he contemplates what brought him to that point in his life. He feels guilt about her death (I made sure you were buckled in).

such a good song | Reviewer: tom | 7/11/10

its about a crazy christian guy who wants to take his girl to heaven, so he plans to crash his car with both of them in it, killing them both. its unclear whether or not both actually die, but she is for sure dead at the end of the song

... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/7/10

I think it's more like the speaker gave the victim all of the tools she needed to get into heaven - the car and the accident are a metaphor for life and death. When he buckles her in, that's like giving her advice and leading her onto the right path...to not buckle her in would have let her stray from a path to God. Or maybe it just means he dreamt of someone he cared about going for a drive with him, and in the dream he drove recklessly while the other person was safely buckled in, but he ended up being the one who survived, hence he will "bring new meaning to the word alone," as she walks "hand in hand with Him." I might be completely wrong, but I'm just throwing it out there.

WEIRDOS | Reviewer: Ryan Ainsworth | 6/1/10

Wow.............I never would have guessed that a band would have such psychotic "fans." Yes, the song is obviously about a car crash but who knows what they were thinking when they wrote the song! WHO CARES!? It's like saying "if two black guys jump off of a bridge who lands first?".........WHO CARES! I also highly doubt that it is about some guy that wants to purposely kill his family member or whatever so they can go to HEAVEN. I am a devoted CHRISTIAN, but GOD gave us life for a reason, if we throw someone's life away, we throw away ours. Anyway, this song is awesome. Sorry I "PREACHED" to you!

Simple Enough | Reviewer: Corey | 3/15/10

Pretty obvious it's about a car crash. It's clearly something that he had been thinking about (first lines). He prayed for her safe place (heaven). he sets his love for her aside so she can walk hand in hand with him (God). So in other words, he killed her, so that she could be in heaven. Don't believe he meant to survive (the days we should have spent here) or maybe he's just thinking about the days they would've spent on earth. He planned on killing her so that she could go to heaven (Planned perfection sought in my dreams Hoping this would take you home). They look pretty clear cut to me.

Meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/14/10

Pretty much i think it's about him loving his girlfriend but has turned away from God and tht if he kills himself in a car accident tht she will turn to God and look to him. "I've decided that tonight is the night That I let love aside"

but obviously he doesn't end up dying "Glass shatters and comes to a halt
I thought we'd be there by now
I thought it would be so much quicker than this"
But it still ends up bringing her back to God (maybe she sees tht God saved his life) hence--> "Pain has never been so brilliant
I made sure you were buckled in
Now you can walk hand in hand
Hand in hand with Him"

some ppl are idiots | Reviewer: alex | 1/27/10

no one can say what the song is about unless u actually wrote it! underoath is a christian band so it is most likely a christian song! it seems to be about a car crash and the person who died is now finally given the oportuntiy to walk side by side with their maker, its obvious that who ever wrote this song misses them, but is glad that they are in heavan now!

a boy brushed red living in black and white | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/26/10

i'm not gonna say who's right and who's wrong, but after i read that it was about a car accident, i went back through and read it again... wow, that gave me chills. but, anyways, good song, deep lyrics.

what i think | Reviewer: cody | 12/23/09

the start of the song hes talking about going past the place of the car accident hince him saying "Full speed ahead this seems to be the place I've seen this once before"
and then he has like a flash back of what happend. them getting in a car accident and his loved one dying
