It is a soft, evocative song, peaceful, a mix of happiness and sadness in the lyrics. You feel the isolation of the island and the time that passes without anything significant happening. "Felt like the tide left me here". Donovan also makes you feel that you are really something very small in the great scheme of things. "Felt like a grain on your sand". The song still brings me back to my late teens and still evokes the same feelings, perhaps a little more poignantly now as I have hit middle age.
