I am thinking it's a sign
that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images
and when we kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate
that God himself did make
us into corresponding shapes
like puzzle pieces from the clay
And true, it may seem like a stretch
but its thoughts like this that catch
my troubled head when you're away
when I am missing you to death
when you are out there on the road
for several weeks of shows
and when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home
they will see us waving from such great heights,
"come down now", they'll say
but everything looks perfect from far away,
"come down now", but we'll stay...
I tried my best to leave
this all on your machine
but the persistent beat it sounded thin
upon listening
and that frankly will not fly
you will hear the shrillest highs
and lowest lows with the windows down
when this is guiding you home
they will see us waving from such great
heights,
"come down now", they'll say
but everything looks perfect from far away
"come down now", but we'll stay...

That whole deal about Sam Beam and his dad seems like a bunch of shit. I've heard that he is gay, which is fine by me, but he definitely did NOT write Such Great Heights, or "NOW I'VE GOT PROOF YOU SECRET FAGGOT", as eric claimed.

Umm yea, that guy is right, it's from The Postal Service, and its the acuistic version of "Such Great Heights" ^^
Personally, this is my favorite song by them ( which is hard as hell to find on Myspace -___-).

The guy who says Sam Beam(as in, Iron&Wine) wrote this about his father is all wrong.. This song was originally made by the postal service, and iron & wine was on the same record label so they did a cover of it which The Postal Service then put on the b side of their "Such Great Heights" release.
Stop arguing over it, or the name. The point is that it's a good song.

Yeah, you guys really do need to do some research.
This is a beautiful song. I do like "Such Great Heights," and this version is just as good. I love acoustic versions of songs, and it's really neat that this was pretty much made into a whole new song entirely, even with the same lyrics.
I dont give a damn what the hell was goin on with Sam when he wrote this amazingly beautiful composure of words. Or if he even did write it IDK? Anyway the point is this version is the most ispiring, soothing, & thoughtful! i love love love it!!

"Iron and Wine" IS another version of "Such Great Heights", same lyrics, just acoustic and slower. Do some more research into songs before going off on others about it being called wrong while YOU, the one going off, is wrong.
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT | Reviewer: ERIC | 7/23/07
OK, You guys are obviously fans of I&W, but I am surprised no one knows the meaning behind this song. When it was written, Sam had been fighting with his father, who thinks he is gay, and also with his mother, who thinks his father is gay and takes it out on their son. His father actually is very gay, and married his mom as a cover so he could be in both worlds and not arouse suspicion. The song came from a recorded phone call from his father to one of Sam's friends, and the only thing Sam changed was the line "...come down now, they'll saaaay-e-yay-ay", which originally said, "...go down now, cause we're gaaaay-e-yay-ay", which embarrassed Sam and his friend, who is thirty five years younger than his father and is just bi-curious so far. His mother had originally named the song "Now I've Got Proof, You Secret Faggot, So Say Goodbye To This House And Everything In It Cause My Lawyer's Going To Rip You A New One, Which You Probably Need After 35 Years Of Sodomy And Lies." Hope I've helped some, Sam Beam and I go way back, and he is definitely gay.
Iron and Wine is a band. The song is called Such Great Heights, both Iron and Wine and The Postal Service did this song. The Postal Service has a more upbeat techno sound to it, and the Iron and Wine version is the one that was on the commercials and the Garden State soundtrack. Its more pretty and flowy and relaxing. Check it out.

Iron and Wine is a band and they sing the acoustic version of "Such Great Heights"... if you want to be sure, look at the Garden State soundtrack list at www.gardenstatesoundtrack.com and it is number 11. I also highly recommend listening to "Let Go" by Frou Frou (also known as Imogen Heap which is flipping AMAZING!!!)
yes, there is an iron and wine. its the acoustic version of such great heights!
