The fields are always wet with rain
After a summer shower
When I saw you standin'
Standin' in the garden
In the garden
Wet with rain
You wiped the teardrops from your eye in sorrow
And we watched the petals fall down to the ground
And as I sat beside you I felt the
Great sadness that day
In the garden
And then one day you came back home
You were a creature all in rapture
You had the key to your soul
And you did open
That day you came back
To the garden
The olden summer breeze was blowin' gainst your face
Alright
The light of God was shinin' on your countenance divine
And you were a violet colour as you
Sat beside your father and your mother
In the garden
The summer breeze was blowin' on your face
Within your violet you treasure your summery words
And as the shiver from my neck down to my spine
Ignited me in daylight and nature in the garden
And you went into a trance
Your childlike vision became so fine
And we heard the bells within the church
We loved so much
And felt the presence of the youth of eternal summers
In the garden
Alright
And as it touched your cheeks so lightly
Born again you were and blushed
And we touched each other lightly
And we felt the presence of the Christ within our hearts
In the garden
And I turned to you and I said
No guru, no method, no teacher
Just you and I and nature
And the Father in the garden
Listen
No guru, no method, no teacher
Just you and I and nature
And the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost
In the garden
Wet with rain
No Guru, no method, no teacher
Just you and I and nature and the Father AND THE SON and the Holy Ghost
In that garden, in the garden, wet with rain
Yeah. Alright.
No Guru, no method, no teacher
Just you and I and nature and the father In the garden

Review about In The Garden amazing | Reviewer: Sam | 7/29/09
I don't believe in God and I'm not involved in any religion, but this song is just amazing and I think it gives a certain strength to everybody who listens to it. everyone can interpret this song in his own way and it's that what makes this song so beatiful.
Beautiful | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/12/09
Went to church today and they sang "In the Garden" and I loved it. So I searched for the song tonight, feeling really low and this Van Morrison came up as a suggestion. I downloaded it. Truly a blessing, this song. Thanks be to God.
I am a young musician mostly into hard rock and such but this is probably the first song I remember from my childhood. I ignored it for several years but as I came back to it I realized that this is and always was my favorite song. It's an emotional journey through my childhood memories and truly Is one of the most...the most beautiful song I ever heard
I have the live version of this and there is a line that I would like to know..ie..'let Him take His wife to the _?_________?____.' Would really appreciate it if someone could let me know. Thankyou .
GREAT SONG!!!!!!!
I agree with you all | Reviewer: Bob Haskell | 11/16/08
This is indeed one of the most spiritually, emotionally, passionately beautiful songs of all time, sung by the passionately beautiful Van under full sway of his Muse and his gift.
I love it, too. It has punctuated my life at its most intense moments, and is one of my favorite treasures in life...
Words expressed to my love that I could never say. | Reviewer: Brian | 10/12/07
I just sent these words to my Love and realized I have listened to it a hundred times ( never until my girl was diagnosed with breast cancer ) and our relationship has been strained....Thank You Van!
Van Morrison's In The Garden is a gem, one of the most beautiful pieces of music of our century and the centuries to come. It's heavenly and it glows all over! I love it and it makes me happy whenever I hear it - as all Van Morrison's compositions!
The perfect song | Reviewer: Kathryn | 4/24/05
This song is one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard! The themes, the story, the lyrics, the instruments - it's all woven together into a gorgeous, emotional tapestry. I love it!
