In The Air Tonight Lyrics - Phil Collins
Review The Song (53)
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment, all my life, Oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
Well, if you told me you were drowning
I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend
But I don't know if you know who I am
Well, I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off the grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies
And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, Oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment all my life, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
Well I remember, I remember don't worry
sponsored linksHow could I ever forget, it's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, no you don't fool me
The hurt doesn't show; but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you or me
And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord...

You're mostly wrong... | Reviewer: Steve | 6/5/12
The song was about his divorce. He even admitted this on an intverview. He stated that he hated Americans who approached him with the drowining rumour and it got more and more far fetched. He said he needed to get his emotions into music and he began to sing one time in the studio ona d995 of the lyrics to this song were mad up spontaneously. Searh Wikipedia for it, it's all there.
I adore this song! | Reviewer: Michael | 5/14/12
This is basically my number one song in the world... I have no song to compare it to. I don't know what it is about.... but I do feel it ALL!
It is like the elixir of my life!! It has power that reminds me of the life that's in me... It takes me "THERE",...

As we all know that 99% of phil collins music always deal with lost love. I thought this music is about a man meeting his ex who have one time been a gr8 liar, and just want her to realise tha no matter how, ha can't be fool anymore.

The real story? Not!! | Reviewer: Mr. Mykd | 5/29/11
@idiotsrbelowme, hey dumbass. The song is about his divorce. He was angry with his wife who cheated on him. He says "if you told me you were drowning I would not lend a hand. Its like saying if you were burning I wouldn't piss on you. Ya know, similar to if you needed help, I wouldn't lend a hand. You're dumb as hell @idiotsrbelowme
Just Like Every Breath You Take by The Police | Reviewer: vicioustyler87 | 11/16/10
This song, just like Every Breath You Take is talking about Divorce, watch the VH1 Behind the Music on Phil Collins. The Whole person drowning and the person not saving them is a urban legend like a lot of people have pointed out. Phil Collins is a great lyricists. Listen to the song, and imagine going through a divorce, it'll make perfect sense.
Come on, people... Really? | Reviewer: Ronnie | 10/21/10
Having arguments on a song lyrics page is stupid and people like "idiotsrbelowme" are just beyond the point of immature. If you want to find out what these lyrics have to do with, don't listen to random people who post senseless comments, just google it and listen to the one with the highest ratings. Don't post false info. This isn't a blog, it's just a place to post what you think of the lyrics so good job "Barb" for posting the kind of comment that the commenting function on this page was made for. If you disagree with this post, don't post your opinion on this site and think how dumb you would seem by arguing with someone who just turned thirteen. If you just really have to cuss me out or something, use my email and keep this site from having to go through the effort of making a "report this comment" button just because someone in the future gets offended by some immature person's comment.
love this song | Reviewer: Barb | 10/15/10
I've aLways loved this song. Everytime I hear it I think of Miami Vice (TV show not movie). They played it when, I believe, Sonny Crockett was driving on a bridge going into a dangerous situation and he stopped to call his wife who he was either separated or divorced from and asked her if there was a time it had been "real" between them. A very powerful moment.
Urban Legend, You Morons! | Reviewer: Anastasia | 10/12/10
The song has absolutely nothing to do with anyone literally drowning. The drowning signifies a METAPHOR of his relationship. Phil Collins, on MANY OCCASIONS, has addressed this strange phenomenon of the "Friend Drowning" urban legend, and has denied ALL ACCOUNTS of it being anything other than a song about his wife. If you GOOGLE it, everything that pops up explains EXACTLY what I'm saying...URBAN LEGEND!!!
Some of you need to check the definition, AND work on your POOR grammar skills (only makes you look like MORE of a moron after believing this stupid, false tale.)
You guys are morons. | Reviewer: Shannon | 8/17/10
He never witnessed anyone drowning. He never saw someone kidnap his friend. None of his friends drown. All of those are urban legends.
There are several interviews where he addresses these silly statements. He thinks they are ridiculous. He wrote the song because he was going through a divorce with his first wife.
Look it up.
haha | Reviewer: your funny | 8/5/10
Hey Just wanna say unless you can back it up with facts, vidoes, anything, it is pretty pointless to say what you think the true story is, and I advise (idiotsrbelowme) to shut his face untel he can back up what he said with any true facts cause his input is now pointles and he just wasted his life coming up with that lame review! thats it haha :P
