Imagine Lyrics - John Lennon

Review The Song (99)

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

'Imagine' was covered by the band A Perfect Circle. If you listen to John Lennon's original, and then listen to A Perfect Circle's version, it is interesting to me to account for the many years that have passed since John Lennon wrote the song. Even today we have to live in a more complicated, hurried world. I think where has our hope gone? Our compassion... Our collective consciousness? Will WE ever be One? John Lennon's Imagine is PERFECT, and A Perfect Circles interpretation of the song illustrates the evolution of our worlds direction as a whole.

As One | Reviewer: Ed Robson | 3/1/14

After a few comments it is like the song, self awareness and self identity is a hard habit. This great song works to Imagine, no attack of identity. Purely to wonder how fine things could possibly be without people seeing the differences of: religion, possessions, wealth, survival, food etc and having enough insight & compassion to share all and all efforts for each other.
We are all really part of the same thing but our world does not unfortunately balance the way of this songs utopian idea. It is an aspiring thought though.

You have to enjoy the song for what it is and for the brilliance of the writer. If you have studied Marx you can see the correlation. Unfortunately if we ever have a new world order as some of you have suggested, there will be some powerful people at the top and we will not be free like the song.

Critical Thinking | Reviewer: Hope | 12/15/13

Critical Thinking is my perception of John Lennon' song "Imagine." We, as people of humankind, may and will differ in interpretation of it's meaning. Unfortunately, John and I did not converse to ascertain his personal interpretation. However, had John and I engaged in specific confirming dialogue...we all may and will differ in our interpretation of the lyrics meaning. All aspects of humankind diversity which includes beliefs in Faith, Christianity, Ethnicity, Race, Environment, Age, Gender, Affluence-finance, power as list continues on. In my opinion, moments such as these are enlightening and we must learn and can 'respectfully' agree to disagree. As I listen to the lyrics of "Imagine" trigger thoughts of Love, Hope and Peace in a world absent of judgement, ridicule, ignorance, but imagine what are the possibilities, and effects ...positive or not; 'imagine' Critical Thinking!
LAs I listen to the song's music and lyrics of John's "Imagine",

I'm sorry that you have insulted my religion, and I will pray for you. I love this song, and I think it is just saying that there would be no religious wars. If you are putting other people down because of a song, then you are immature. You say you are fourteen - I am twelve. And I have better grammar than you.

hey :) | Reviewer: audrey. | 7/11/13

to the fourteen year old girl who thinks she's more intelligent than everyone else here---
excuse me, but could you at least express a decent amount of respect for Christianity? I myself am a Catholic, and I'm not going to counter whatever you have just said because religion is a matter of personal faith. Please have the decency to respect that. You don't have to agree with it (I'm assuming you're an Atheist), but insulting and mocking someone's beliefs is incredibly immature. Religion is a sensitive topic for strong believers, so can I politely request that you don't stray to that topic?
Personally, I feel that "Heaven" part is not even an insult to my faith. I think John Lennon was trying to tell us to imagine if all we had was the present life, and there was nothing after death. To recreate paradise on the life we're living in now. He's not saying heaven is bad, he's just telling us to live our life as fully as possible on this earth, like we would if there wasn't an afterlife.

Like the song but it reminds me of communism ideaology that I grew up with | Reviewer: Jenny | 6/6/13

I like the song very much. But it reminds me of my earlier education while growing up. I grew up in a communist country and
I was taught to be an atheist and to believe in communism which is similar to what's written in the lyrics.

Anonymous, who wrote the message from March 23rd: I'd beg you not to say that things about the Bible and the Christianism in general because you are getting as low as most of the dulls who critisize this song for being 'heretic'. I believe in God but also love this song and I don't think these lyrics put down religion in absolute, I think these lyrics transmit very well the message of love and peace from Jesus, indeed. You just try not to hurt the believings of the other although they injure yours (I know it isn't easy). Profit that advice because you are young and it can be useful for you.

well.... | Reviewer: anonymous | 3/23/13

I am tired of all these Jesus lovers putting down this song. John was clearly sharing his thoughts, as he always did, and its rude to put him down for that. This song was not included ended to be about religion, it is about world peace, about everyone living and loving the same way. And, yeah, John was an Atheist....but how do you know that Jesus and God saved us. Hmmmm? You go to church an are preached to about how magnificent God is and you read the Bible and seem to know what he did to save you, and you believe it all when it could just be nonsense. How do you know it was/is real? Who documented all these things in to a Bible? Do you honestly think that the Bible's words never have gotten changed over the thousands of years? And God was just some being the magically came from nowhere, like a wizard? And he impregnated Mary how? By waving a wand? Also with Eve supposedly coming from Adams rib, how does that work when the woman has the children, which then grow up to be men? Tell me where he came from and how he did all this, then maybe I'll change my mind. Now I'm sure that all I have said is considered a sin, so please brothers and sisters pray, oh do pray for me (sarcasm).
By the way I'm a 14 year old girl who is obviously way more intelligent than you people.

No Hell? ... it says no Hell below us!
While it is written with gentle optimism for a World at Peace,
It doesn't address the problems of overpopulation and our need to strive for greater understanding and spiritual growth.
I think that Love, Faith and Hope should be our greatest goals.
Peace be With You!

Interesting | Reviewer: cloak and dagger | 2/26/13

This song clearly states, a "New World Order" One world government, one order. Its all part of the Iluminati, they Deny Jesus Christ and to fool you, Satan denies himself. Very interesting song. This is far more plausable now then when the song first was released.

Wonderfull song | Reviewer: Slanderman | 2/23/13

This song is very interesting. It says about another, special world. Where people are free, without fear about their sins. It's cute to know- no hell, no heaven and no religion- it means no one can tell you what you are suppoed to do

Accountability | Reviewer: Mary | 2/2/13

People love this song because it destroys accountability for your "sins". If there's no heaven, there's no hell, and therefore no debt for sins. The truth is, Jesus took on our debt, and died on that cross so that we can be saved. Jesus Christ loves each and every one of you, and He's calling you to the ONLY Truth. Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Lennon struggled with his faith, and the Lord gave him chance after chance to embrace Him. Eventually Lennon was killed by one of his own fans. Judgement? Don't mess with God. Repent, turn away from your sins, put your trust and faith in Jesus Christ and be Born Again. REad the Bible.

imagine | Reviewer: John T Donaldson | 5/8/12

Lennon's creative genus imagine leaves anyone who hears it a better person. He brought the art of music to a whole new level which just can't be explained with conceptual words. Listen to this song every day and someday the world really will live as one.

Love this song... all it's saying is: "Why in the world can't we get along?". I'm singing it for the idol, and I want people to spread the word of this song! Peace forever! John's right, he's not the only believer! I'm pretty sure I'm getting carried away with this... my point is, this song is FOR THE WIN!!!
