I have no idea what the lyrics mean (I am not American) but I do know that R.E.M. are perhaps one of the best ever songwriters and I AM ABSOLUTELY OBBSESSED WITH THEM!!! I am not really a "fan", but I hate the way that JLS stole R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" song and KILLED IT!! YES, THEY KILLED A BRILLIANT SONG!! Man, I should go to America, buy a shotgun, bring it back here and kill JLS with it. Still... that would be against the law.

Okay, next I want to make TOTALLY clear that I am not a "fan".

I think Ignoreland really shows how angry R.E.M. are (or were) about whatever happened in America at the time that they wrote that song, and I think they expressed their anger through a song without going over the top. I admit, the language is a bit coarse, but I DON'T CARE!!

I REALLY don't get the lyrics of the song, but R.E.M. are so cool, I EVEN DANCE TO THEM!! Wow. How strange.

And how is that strip down at the bottom of the page there any use? HOW IS IGNORELAND EDUCATIONAL?! It's not to me.

Anyway. I think I've made a fair point that R.E.M. rock the world and I want to get more people interested in their world and their songs.

Reading through these lyrics make me even more mad that American still is Ignoreland. The Shrub, Cheney, Rove, Rummy all came back to finish/continue what they started in the late 70s thru the early 90s. First they stole an election and then they blinded the masses with fear and over ran the country. Torture, war, oil, domestic spying, fear mongering, destruction of Habeas Corpus, etc. It's been a national nightmare that we are living once again. Republican = Criminal. From Watergate to Iran/Contra to Weapons of Mass Destruction to Valerie Plame. They have succeeded in destroying America's standing in the world and putting us on the brink of ruin. Yes, Michael, "I feel better having screamed".
