Collin Raye If You Get There Before I Do Lyrics

Last updated: 10/10/2013 08:01:14 AM

I read a note my grandma wrote back in 1923
Grandpa kept it in his coat and he showed it once to me
He said boy you might not understand
But a long, long time ago
Grandma’s daddy didn’t like me none
But I loved your grandma so

We had this crazy plan to meet
And run away together
Get married in the first town we came to and live forever
But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet instead
I found this letter
And this is what it said

If you get there before I do
Don't give up on me
I’ll meet you when my chores are through
I don’t know how long I’ll be
But I’m not gonna let you down
Darling wait and see
And between now and then ‘til I see you again
I’ll be loving you, love, me

I read those words just hours before my grandma passed away
In the doorway of a church
Where me and grandpa stopped to pray
I know I’d never seen him cry in all my 15 years
But as he said these words to her
His eyes filled up with tears

If you get there before I do
Don't give up on me
I’ll meet you when my chores are through
I don’t know how long I’ll be
But I’m not gonna let you down
Darling wait and see
And between now and then ‘til I see you again
I’ll be loving you, love me
Between now and then ‘til I see you again
I’ll be loving you, love, me

We will play this at my husband's funeral | Reviewer: Me | 10/10/13

Bob was given Hep C through a blood transfusion 29 years ago. We have dealt with it all along but it hasn't been easy. We have been together for 40 years. I can't stand the thought of living without him. This song reminds me he will be waiting for me when my chores are through. He is on hospice now and we don't know how long we have together. I am grateful for each day we have. Bob: remember I love you and I will get there when my chores are through. Don't know how long I'll be but until then I will always love you. Love, MeMe

My Grandpa and Grandma | Reviewer: Sarah | 8/9/13

My grandpa, at 63, died before my grandma, at 97, and my grandma never dated or married again. She always told us that grandpa was her only love. She raised eight children and lost three of them before she passed in 2008. I was only 13 when my grandpa died and I have always understood why he was so very special and the only one for my grandma. Love and miss them both and every time I here this song no matter where I am I cry, if we all could have a love like theirs the world would be a much happier place.

She's there now... | Reviewer: One very blessed husband... | 4/9/12

Patrice (Princess Patty) suffered a massive heart attack and was taken from us suddenly in the very early morning hours of Sunday 19 February, 2012. The lyrics mean more to me now than they did when I first heard them. I know she's there now, waiting for me, and when it comes my time to leave, she'll have her hand out stretched, welcoming me home.

I was diagnosed with cancer in May, 2009. Patty kept me going, giving me the strength, courage and will to fight. I won my battle. She lost hers. Now, it's she who is there waiting there for me.

As it so well put.. I'll be there when my chores are through... I don't know how long I'll be, but until then, when we meet again... It's me loving you.. Love Me..

My husband is currently going through his AIT courses and is supposed to go overseas. I'm not going to BCT until September. I dedicate this song to him because as soon as I finish BCT and AIT I am deploying with him. I'm going to keep on loving him no matter how long it takes to be together again.

If You Get There Before I Do | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/22/09

I lost my husband, Tom to cancer last year. When he was in the hospital he said,"I'm gonna get there before you do and I will wait for you."
He loved this song.
We first dated in 1961. I was too young to realize how right he was for me, and I married someone else a few years later and so did he. In 1991, both divorced we found each other again. We married in 1998, and in 2003 he was diagnosed with cancer and died in 2007. He will forever be in my heart. I miss him so very much. I love this song so very much.

Really a great song only the roles were reversed My father passed first. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/26/08

This song is so much like my parents. My father carred for my mom who is delaing with vascualr dementia now. I was thinking of this song as my mom and six of the seven kids said goodbye to uour father. She bent over and told him she would see him soon. Dad and Mom demonstrated what unconditional love was all about. I listen to this song alot thing of both of them and the values they had taught me.

Thanks collin for a great song.
