If We Are The Body Lyrics - Casting Crowns

Review The Song (109)

If We Are The Body
------Casting Crowns

It's crowded in worship today
As she slips in trying to fade into the faces
The girl's teasing laughter is carrying farther than they know
Farther than they know

But if we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching?
Why aren't His hands healing?
Why aren't His words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going?
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?
There is a way

A traveler is far away from home
He sheds his coat and quietly sinks into the back row
sponsored links
The weight of their judgmental glances
Tells him that his chances are better out on the road

But if we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching?
Why aren't His hands healing?
Why aren't His words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going?
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?
There is a way

Jesus paid much too high a price
For us to pick and choose who should come
And we are the body of Christ

if we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching?
Why aren't His hands healing?
Why aren't His words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going?
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?
There is a way

if we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching?
Why aren't His hands healing?
Why aren't His words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going?
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?
There is a way

Jesus is the way

Faith. | Reviewer: Steven Caruso | 3/25/14

I'm not a very religious person. so it may seem odd that i'm "Reviewing" this song. I have my own reasons why i don't go to church, but that's not what i'm here to talk about.

I've listened to this song many times in my life. My father was big on Christian music, so i heard this and many other song's quite often.

As I've grown older, And as i think about the way the world seems to act. I feel now more than ever that this song is Right.

Now, don't get me wrong, as i stated before, i don't go to church, and i'm not extremely religious.

But we've strayed too far. We turn our backs on people just because other's of the same or similar faith feel like we should.

of what i understand, God wants us to love eachother equally.

Yet we treat the LGBT community like trash, we discriminate against others by what they look like, and we turn a blind eye to those in need because of reasons undisclosed.

We, as believers in god, are The body of Christ. yet we seem to be moving backwards, or just plain standing still.

I feel like this needs to change.

I may be wrong, but i hope i'm not the only one who feels this way.

I'd recommend this song to anyone. Christian or not.
I personally like it. And lastly...
Thank you for reading.

A CALL TO PERSONAL REVIVAL | Reviewer: Biam, S.A | 8/9/13

One body; one God; one father; one Lord, who is judge over all; one spirit...
This song is a call to personal revival in the body of christ. And revival cannot come unless God opens our eyes to see what's wrong with us, and to cry out... Revival cannot come until we begin to hate our present situation: (there's little or no proper teaching of His word, our feet aren't going anywhere; in other words, we're not advancing in our walk with God or moving forward, there's no love but prejudice and hatred etc). This is our present state and we must be moved to hate and cry against it! May God help us.

Reviving | Reviewer: Esmond | 6/8/13

I find this song reviving! I got in here to find its complete lyrics. I also went through some reviews. The one thing that strikes a chord on my mind...a revival song...revive us oh Lord. Amen.

we are the body | Reviewer: Patrick | 5/26/13

I love this song. The church is not a building that people go to. We are the church. Each person in a congrigation is a part of the church. So as a part of the living church we are also the body of Christ. Baptist, Methodist, Pentacostle whoever. We are all a part of the body, we as man have created the devision.

Another Take | Reviewer: Keith | 5/25/13

I have a little bit different take on this: I believe we as Christians sometimes think that we have to be "saving souls" to be doing God's work. Whether in Church or not, everything we do needs to exemplify Christ. There are a lot of things gone wrong in society - to name one, substance abuse. We need to be involved on all fronts, not just the Churchy-church front (not that there is anything wrong with working hard there too, of course).

To me, a lot of people are taking the easy way out, to say that people are "being judgmental". Read the Bible, and you will see a lot of people, including Jesus, talking against groups of people, and certain sins. I am pretty sure being judgmental is going against an individual. Going against sin categories is OK (no matter what a lot of people would try to tell you. By the way, aren't those people the ones who are being judgmental?).

Lyrical Issues | Reviewer: Justin Williams | 4/30/13

If you are having to defend your church, or you are angry about these lyrics, maybe you are actually telling yourself something you never wanted to know. We all know that NO band, in the history of EVER, wrote a song that addresses a problem that applies to everyone without exception. So, if in reading these lyrics you get offended, maybe you should be asking yourself, am I really being the body?

Wake Up! | Reviewer: Bradmante | 11/20/12

I think this song is beautiful. It is wake up call to everyone to start acting. Jesus is not just going to judge us on how often we go to church, but on what we do, think and say as well. This song is telling us that the true church is one body, united in Christ, not a thousand different groups arguing over who has the best beliefs. Believe me, even the best churches do that.

Church? | Reviewer: Belle | 11/20/12

To those who said that the Church is doing the right thing, which Church? Protestant...Catholic...There are so many out there, and their beliefs are so different. The real church should be the one that is united in Christ, believers of Jesus Christ, who act as his body on earth.

if we are the body | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/2/12

this song is truly a wake up call to the church to reach out to the lost out there. I dont think it's criticizing or any thing like that. A lot of us even when we say we are reaching out still are choosy about who to reach out to and we leave the ripe fruits to rotten and go for the unripe ones. Evangelism, love, caring, healing is never too much even if we have been doing it, this should encourage us to do more. And for those that think they (casting crowns) should "stop heaping guilt and lead the way", i think they are doing a pretty good job of winning soul through their music and other means.

Awesome!! | Reviewer: Darlene | 10/1/12

I heard this song for the 1st time just the other day and it spoke volumes to me. It said IF we REALLY are the Body of Christ and have faith the size of a mustard seed then WHY aren't more people being healed (physically as well as spiritually)? Jesus said we would be able to do even more wonderful works that He did and yet it isn't happening very often. I think it's a wake up call for all Christians to trust the Holy Spirit more. Those who think it is a song against the Church perhaps are speaking from a guilty conscience because they know they aren't doing all they can to further the Kingdom!

Another take on this.... | Reviewer: PatJ | 8/3/12

The lyrics of this song are not a knock on the church per say but rather a criticism of how church folks sometimes act one way when the "lights are on" and everyone is watching and then behind the scenes they are completely different and do not act in a caring and supportive way as they want everyone else to believe. There is a lot of hypocrisy going on in churches today and we need be consciencious about this if we are going to make a stand and welcome all people into the body of Christ.

Be burdened! | Reviewer: Rebecca Tembo | 7/16/12

We are disabling the body because we like to just sit pretty while others do all the work,we should be burdened for souls.Let's go out there and lead our fellow heirs in Christ back home.beautiful song!

I agree with Rick 100%. Here's another soul who feels the same as he does. The Spirit of Christ encourages the church, not criticise and try to destroy those who are doing their best to do the will of the Lord. I, as well, feel negative criticism to the church through these songs and not inspired at all by them.

We ARE the BODY | Reviewer: Dana S | 5/12/12

Most awesome song I've heard! I think the Lord is trying to wake the Church up out of a slumber! We have become so comfortable in our walk with the Lord, that we go to church, go home, go to church, go home! What happened to ministering to the Lost; What happened to getting EXCITED in Church, during our Praise time! Big Churches seem to continue Praising God, especially if they have a big choir, but little churches, need to WAKE UP and do something for GOD! Get excited! Jesus set YOU free!
Love this song, 'If We are the Body', by Casting Crowns! Love it, love it, love it! I don't think they are bashing the Church; just trying to get our attention and wake us up! Thank you! Thank You!

Unconditional Love | Reviewer: Teen on fire! | 5/10/12

I also don't believe that Casting Crowns is discriminating against the church. I think they are trying to challenge people to step out of their comfort zone and put their love into action. I know this song has really helped me to reach out and try to help better my parish! One last thing, even if Casting Crowns is discriminating against the church, respond with love! Prove to them that they're wrong! I'm sure Jesus, standing in front of an angry mob, being tormented and ridiculed was thinking "Oh I need to go blog about this and tell everyone how cruel these people are!" NO! HE FORGAVE AND LOVED THEM DESPITE IT! And so must we!
God bless you!! :)
