If That's What You Need Lyrics - Genesis

Review The Song (2)

Talking makes us human that's what I was told
So why do I find it so difficult to let my feelings unfold
Had I the courage to tell you I'd promise you this

If that's what you need
I'll be the river I'll be the mountain always beside you
If that's what you need
I will be stronger I will be braver than ever before

When you came along and turned it all around
I promised myself I wouldn't tell you
Until we stood on solid ground
Holding the candle between us I'll tell you this

If that's what you need
I'll be the river I'll be the mountain always beside you
If that's what you need
I will be stronger I will be braver than ever before

And if there's any kind of danger
sponsored links
I hear you calling out my name
You can follow in my footsteps
And I will lead you safely back again

I never understood you however hard I tried
But it took me a while until I realised
That all the problems were mine
Holding you nearer to me to tell you this

If that's what you need
I'll be the river I'll be the mountain always beside you
If that's what you need
I will be stronger I will be braver than ever before
And when things go wrong
I'll be your conscience there to remind you all of your life
When you go wrong
I'll be the reason you'll be protected all of your days

a Truly magnificent and touching song.
My mother ans step-father actually played during their wedding, and i dont really wonder.
If only all couples could be truly so brave and loyal to each other as this song tells it, many lives would be much happier, at least thats what i think.
This song also inspired me, as a writer, to wrote about romantic, although quite tragic story about lovers.

What a song! | Reviewer: Paul Berry | 2/3/2006

I have been a follower of Genesis since "And Then There Were Three" came out. That album led me to investigate their earlier material and I came to be a huge fan of the band, even having a chance to see them on the "Duke" tour. "Calling All Stations" has come to be one of my all time favourite Genesis albums, and this song is one of my favourites on the album. Mike Rutherford's guitar work, so in keeping with his later Mike and the Mechanics material, is melodically beautiful, as is Tony Banks' majestic orchestral keyboard arrangements. Newcomers Ray Wilson on vocals (probably my favorite Genesis vocalist, with a rough edge like Gabriel yet soft like early Collins at the same time) and Nir Z on drums (the most worthy replacement for Phil Collins, in some ways technically superior, simply incredible!) provide what I believe to be a superb complement to the remaining originals, providing the freshness and creativity of youth to complement the mastery and intelligence of experience. I only wish they would have had the foresight to continue as a band with that lineup. That album was sheer musical genius. But then again, commercially it was a failure, but artistically it was some of their best work, and would've been a hard act to follow. Meanwhile, I have become a huge fan of Ray Wilson and anticipate great things to come from this super singer and songwriter.
Best regards to all,
Paul
