If I Should Die Tonight Lyrics - Marvin Gaye

Review The Song (2)

Oh, If I should die tonight
Oh baby, it would be far before my time
I won't die blue, sugar yeah
'Cause I've known you

Oooh, oh, how many eyes
Have seen their dream
Oh, how many arms
Have felt their dream
How many hearts, baby...
Have felt their world stand still

Millions never, they never never
And millions never will baby
They never will

If I should die tonight love
Darlin', it would be far before my time
I won't die blue
'Cause I've known you

Oooh, oh, I'm thankful that you're lovin' me
My one desire
Is to love you 'til
I'm no longer here and never tire
You always been so good to me
I'm so thankful

Oooh, oh, how many eyes
Have seen their dream
How many arms
Have felt their dream
How many hearts, oh darlin'
Have felt their world stand still
Oh Lord!

Millions never, no, never
And millions never will, sugar
They never will

If I should die tonight, ahhh baby
I just want you to keep this thought in mind
That I would never die blue...
'Cause I've known you
Oooh!!

He Sang Before His Time | Reviewer: Kimetta Coleman | 8/13/10

No matter how tragic the experiences Marvin encountered and the one that signaled the end of his life, no one can dispute that he had a gift of prophesy that speaks to world even now.

One can read in the lyrics and hear in the music the void he so longed to fill - one of relationship. Whether that relationship was the love of a woman; a wife. Something lasting and growing. Then too with relationship to humanity.

He tried to tell us that without love (true Love) we can never reach our fullest potential of embracing because to be devoid of love is to e devoid of LIFE. So then it is only apparent here in this song, "If I Should Die Tonight" he proclaims that eventhough my existence here on this earth is but for a time - all of its (life) meaning and purpose only came because of love and that my heart was capable of receiving and giving love.

And he was thankful...

This is one of the best of all time. If you really love someone, your feelings won't get much deeper that these words express.
