IN THE CITY Lyrics
Artist(Band):The Jam
In the city there's a thousand things I want to say to you
But whenever I approach you, you make me look a fool
I wanna say, I wanna tell you
About the young ideas
But you turn them into fears
In the city there's a thousand faces all shining bright
And those golden faces are under 25
They wanna say, they gonna tell ya
About the young idea
You better listen now you've said your bit-a
And I know what you're thinking
You still think I am crap
But you'd better listen man
Because the kids know where it's at
In the city there's a thousand men in uniforms
And I've heard they now have the right to kill a man
We wanna say, we gonna tell ya
About the young idea
And if it don't work, at least we still tried
In the city, in the city
In the city there's a thousand things I want to say to you

Review about IN THE CITY
Great song | Reviewer: Tim | 10/25/2007
Righteous aggression. Love this song, blistering, infectious, energetic, charistmatic.
I read the lyrics and I wouldn't mind knowing what influenced Paul Weller to right the lyrics. What exactly is the "young idea?" Is it punk music?
British music at its best | Reviewer: www.leon_trotsky_1917@hotmail.co.uk | 12/21/2005
IN THE CITY is charged with aggression, it gets the pulse going, because it is such a fantastic song. It is sung with tanacity by Paul Weller, and the three give the world a song which is a great reminder of how Punk Rock influenced British music from 1977 onwards. It is still influencing music today, where bands are still trying to conjure the feeling of dissaffection and the need to rebel. This makes THE JAM stand out as one of the greats amongst the British Rock scene, for being able to be so charismatic with lyrics, and music, to be part of the 1977 generation, and to have captured many young people's imaginations. It reveals the bands' true genius, and this is a pefect reason why they were so great.
