U2 I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Lyrics

Last updated: 10/14/2013 08:55:26 AM

I have climbed highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you
I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
I Burn like fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the eternal of angels
I have held the hand of the devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
But yes I'm still running

You broke the bonds
And you loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Oh my shame
You know I believe it

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is a song by rock band U2. It is the second track from their 1987 album The Joshua Tree and was released as the album's second single in May 1987. The song was a hit, becoming the band's second consecutive number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 after "With or Without You", while peaking at number six on the UK Singles Chart.

Like much of The Joshua Tree, the song was inspired by the group's interest in American music. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" exhibits influences from gospel music and its lyrics describe spiritual yearning. Lead vocalist Bono's vocals are in high register and guitarist The Edge plays a chiming arpeggio. The song originated from a demo the group used to develop a unique drum pattern played by drummer Larry Mullen, Jr.

"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" was well-received by critics. It has subsequently become one of the group's most well-known songs and has been performed on many of their concert tours. The track has appeared on several of their compilations and concert films. From Wikipedia

How Some have "Held the Hand of the Devil" | Reviewer: theresa1 | 10/13/13

The Creator and Universal Sovereign Jehovah Himself, throughout His own scriptural words, strongly warns against spiritism in all its forms, including using or being a spirit medium. (See Deuteronomy 18:10-13; Revelation 21:8) One reason why is because it brings humans into contact with or opens the way for them to be influenced by demons. Demons and demon influence brings ruination and death - maybe not right away (so that indulging in spiritism seems fun, thrilling, or "promisingly" effective)- but eventually, it can, and has.

There's no need for anyone to "experiment" with spiritism - to see if it can possibly be acceptable to even their built-in human conscience as worthy spirituality, an "answer" to what they should be "looking for". Along with the rest of Satan's lies/ spiritual lie-based practices, mankind has already - over and over again, for 6000 years - run spiritism through the "scientific process", [foolishly] tested it every which-way, and the conclusion keeps coming up the same: It produces NO lasting good, and in fact damages lives, and produces every sort of rotten effect among mankind in this world.

The grand conclusion is this: Spiritism has been the ultimate source of all pain, suffering, badness, and death in this world.

Disobeying the Maker of Mankind's loving warnings so as to pay attention to the teachings of demons instead has caused individuals to become grotesquely inhumane, evil, murderous, insane, and suicidal - to name a few known effects. On a bigger scale, it has influenced the consciences of masses of people to engage in or spiritually support or "accept" genocide, war, injustice, immorality, and a general rebellion (even via spiritual apathy) towards God and his Divine standards for humans.

Spiritism is "interfaith" of course, because both of those modes are acceptant of spiritual lies; and both hold spiritual truth from Jehovah the Creator as being "the enemy" - the only one thing that is unacceptable [to them]. For their incorporation of anti-whole scriptural spiritual lies, all of the FALSE religions of the world are thus spiritistic. The Bible calls Satan's world empire of all false religions "Babylon the Great".(Revelation 17:5)

Because the Creator rightly insists upon a standard of pure worship and spiritual truth, neither spiritism nor any of the spiritism-accepting/practicing false religions of the world are acceptable to Him whatsoever. It fact, those spiritual modes are already altogether scripturally condemned by Him - and will meet their end, BY HIM, soon. That is why there is a global warning work going on right now, warning people of all the nations to leave off from spiritism and to get out of all of the false religions of this world immediately. (Revelation 18:4,5) God is sick of the bad things these ways have produced. They have all but ruined our world; and God even blames spiritism and false religion for "all who have been slaughtered on the earth." (Revelation 18:24)

Just as it was spiritism/false religion that caused the pre-flood world to become overrun with wickedness and violence, so it has done the same to our world today. Society in general is now in about the same kind of state that the pre-flood world was right before Jehovah did His warned-about clean-up work (the Deluge) then. Now, the "great tribulation" (which begins with God's own intervention to cause the total and permanent end of all false religions), followed immediately by Armageddon Day itself (God's own getting rid of every last vestige of spiritism and evil on this earth) is imminent (SOON). So, it would be really foolish for anyone to start messing around with the deadliness that is spiritism - indeed, its time to wash one's hands/heart/soul of that entirely instead.

After Armageddon comes the return of paradise onto this earth. God-loving, God-respecting, God-obedient people will get to live here in happiness forever then. All of the family of mankind on this planet then will more than thrive then - spiritually, emotionally, and physically - under the heaven-based government by the Creator Himself that will reign down from heaven to encompass this whole globe (as its only Rulership). THAT is the scripturally promised "kingdom" coming - so in THAT way, and for that much, "I believe in the kingdom come." (It's the same "kingdom" God's Son, Jesus Christ, prayed for and worked towards - Matthew 6:10.)

Why give up the TRUE "Kingdom come" (eternal happiness & more on a paradise earth, along with having an awesome relationship with Jehovah the Heavenly Father Himself ) - just to hold "the hand of the Devil" (which may temporarily seem "warm in the night", but then surely becomes "cold as a stone")? Many people have wisely given up spiritism; and have turned to clean, spiritually healthy worship based on truth, and have come to enjoy a very real and ultra-satisfying spiritual relationship with their very own Maker instead. You can too.

U2 Still haven't found what I've been looking for. | Reviewer: Colin Blann | 10/11/13

As a Spiritualist I love this song. The Physical world is imperfect and therefore so are we. Even though I believe in the Spirit world and the after life I still am trying to find that 100% perfection. Still trying to find out everything I can. Spiritualism is totally inter-faith. It encompasses all belief systems. It is also a Humanitarian side. Every answer to every question always brings up more questions. Our human brain cannot hope to know everything and will always have human failings like doubts and fears. If you trust that you will not die, just your physical body will, then you need not fear anything. We have come from Spirit and our true self will pass to Spirit when our earthly life has run its course. We are energy and energy cannot be destroyed. So keep on trying to find what you are looking for and experience your pathway toward whatever it is. I facilitate a Spiritual Centre and for me the religion part is very small. The science part is very interesting with mediumship and phenomena. However what we do concentrate is our philosophy and our way of life. Orthodox religion and most of the media tv and film makers mock and ridicule us. Why? Do they fear us through ignorance? Something that they must try and find out themselves. Unlike blind faith when you are told what to believe in we can prove our belief with genuine and honest mediumship experienced every week (not some of the frauds and moneygrabbers around nowadays). If you are still trying to find what you are looking for then explore all avenues and not one blinkered road.

Intellectual Property of God ISN'T for HIJACKING for Mere "Entertainment" | Reviewer: theresa1 | 8/5/13

Some elements of this song are "trademark"-etly distinct terms and clear allusions to what is of the scriptural Authorship of Jehovah [Yahweh] God Almighty Himself. Apart from what should be their own and proper context, when used for purposes in opposition to what the Author and Owner of this material - the Creator and Universal Sovereign Himself - intended, it is robbery of God Himself. It is blasphemy and harm to His purposes - which is for those same words and concepts of His to be used, in harmony with the rest of his own scriptural TRUTH, to transmit urgent life-giving/life-helping/life-saving to mankind - for anyone (artists OR THEIR "FANS") to HIJACK what belongs to God, what He (and His TRUE worshipers) are using to try to help save as many people as possible before Armageddon soon hits - and for those artists/fans to publically EXPLOIT, twist, discount, misrepresent etc. God's own living words for purposes against what the Creator has stated as being Truth and His will.

Great song! | Reviewer: Jake | 8/3/13

I don't really care about the religion part, everyone has their own belief on religion and how they go about it, and that's fine. But really this is a great song and that's all that should matter. Throwing religion into everything just dampens the whole point of what you are really trying to say, and thus making yourself look like you think you have to speak your mind to every single portion of something so great.

"Grace" is about Sinning Against the Holy Spirit and Satanism Itself | Reviewer: theresa1 | 5/16/13

Only crowd-pleasing spiritual lies have been accepted on this board for some time now. Lies sell better. They please more of the masses. Pop religion and this pop band have chosen to be bedmates for years.

Give the crowds want they want is the joint chorus of their "love song" - screechingly out of tune with Divine truth as can be.

The LIE of grace
How sweet it sounds

(Those who follow that have no sacrifice left to cover for their sins - says THE GOD WHO ESTABLISHED THESE LAWS AND PRINCIPLES - whom the prophesied type FALSE TEACHERS violate with their ever- inferior anti-whole-scriptural, antichrist, anti-Jehovah/Yahweh, faulted and injustice-producing doctrines and philosophies of MEN.

Babylon the Great, with all of its FALSE "preachers" has fallen, and its final crashing punishment from God Himself will occur at any time now. Amen.

religion is about law but Faith is about grace | Reviewer: Ryo | 5/11/13

My friends, this song really give us the picture about what grace is. No matter how much we try to live right, to know God, we just can't reach the place of perfection, it's all about grace. We're not found God, because God isn't lost. In matter o fact He's the one who found us. It's all about grace not law that based on our performance.

What Happened? | Reviewer: jonclyde | 3/30/13

all this ranting and raving over just a few words. Well, Jesus justs wants you stop fussing and start follwing His Command to love others as we love ourself. Feed the hungry, heal the sick. Just ask Bono, he knows how to do it.

this is a song of faith | Reviewer: Anthony | 1/23/13

A response to the Bible thumpers in the list: this is a song of faith. What he is looking for, is not salvation; it is the abundant life. Any Bible readers ever heard of the abundant life? Some news for people who take very chance they get to preach to the unsaved: walking with God is not only about throwing the book at people; it is about everything in life. Consider this and then re-read the lyrics.

The Singer Not The Song | Reviewer: Colm Connolly | 1/8/13

Having clambered back and forth over the blazing "Berlin Walls" of Belfast in 1969 with my trusty Fender bass I think that not so much the spirituality but the reality of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is Bono and U2 doing a rock band tour in fact of Belfast.

But it IS Past "11 'o Clock", Tick, Tock... | Reviewer: theresa1 | 11/10/12

Time is running out for humans to seek God, find Him and learn what He says to do, obey Him, and become and stay loyal to Him. He has already told people, in His words, what they need to do, and that information has been put out "in all the inhabited earth" now, in this final part of the last days (of this world system) - so the "end" of it will come soon. (Matthew 24:14)

seeking god | Reviewer: renee | 11/7/12

that's what all religious people are trying to do, in their own way. the holiest of men experienced complications of life in comparison to god's creation and had doubts; but they still plodded their way to god. there's much more to religion, meditation and spiritualism than meets the eye. this artist has definitely come very close to both the positive and the negative energies around us. if he continues to search in his good honest way, he will probably find what he's looking for, because we all fell short of god's glory in different ways.

A "Simple, Short , and Effective Message" for Those Who Fight, Rather than Appreciate Scriptural Truth | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/23/12

Most of humanity will SOON be dead forever, when God soon enacts his Day of vengeance and justice against all persons who continued to make all sorts of self-serving "excuses" (SUCH AS THEY "STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR" [yet,"How can [they] stand next to the truth and not see it]),"excuses" for why they just couldn't bring themselves to do the naturally right things of HONEST-heartedly seeking and then LEARNING God-required truth from His own words (John 17:3,17), and then OBEYING IT (John 3:36).

This Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/13/12

I feel that this song means something different to each person. Seriously, I am a Christian and I even go to a Christian college. I feel like the song is portraying someone who WANTS to believe in God, but somehow can't manage to do so, thus they keep looking for more and haven't found what they wanted to yet. The artist is showing doubt and emptiness in religion, which we are all capable of, even as believers. This is my opinion...and we each have our own. Just because the song is "of the devil" to you does not set it in stone and make it the same way for everyone else. We all sin and we are not perfect, which is precisely why Jesus died for us. Doubt is NOT unbelief. Even Christians can doubt their religion and not feel completely content sometimes.

Honestly, when people preach so much and do not sympathize with others, you are bringing a very bad view upon yourselves and other Christians. You cannot force faith on people; they must accept it by themselves. Yes, I understand you can "plant the seed" in their minds about Christianity and accepting God into their lives, but beating it into them is no good and it does not benefit. You come off and harsh and unrelenting, and also unforgiving of the sins of others because they are not "believers." Is that REALLY what a Christian should appear to be?

A simple, short and effective message would work much better. I think the people get the point. And really, is all the fighting necessary? It's one song. This is pretty ridiculous.

As Said, This Song Promotes that Human Opinion is Greater than God's ORDERS, & that PLEASES MOST | Reviewer: Theresa1 | 6/11/12

As stated, this long-time internationally mass-media-ed song DOES promote and reinforce to God-defiant individuals (and those still ignorant of the Creator's scriptural mandates) - TO CONTINUE TO DISMISS, if not DEFY (and even FIGHT against) - LIFE VITAL scriptural life-and-survival instruction that IS being globally messaged by Jehovah/Yahweh the Creator through his loyal and obedient global people to their fellow human beings during these last of the pre-Armageddon days (just as prophesied). (Matthew 24:14; Isaiah 43:10; more.)

For that, it is a deathful song for the many who are using it as an ANTHEM to NOT LISTEN to and OBEY the Heavenly Father's OWN WORDS that HE is so purposely having put out throughout the whole earth at this critical time.

For those who do use this song as a theme song by which to fight God Himself by fighting his scriptural messages, this tune surely does become a fool's anthem.

It was Satan the Liar - not anyone nobel, true, just, loving, or righteous - that first implored mankind to DEFY GOD, ignore what
the Maker said, DISOBEY Him, aka "Do what thou wilt", "interpret" God Almighty's own orders yourself as you wish (however it suits individual humans), etc.

However, just as Satan's LIE of the above did result in bringing suffering and DEATH into the world beginning in Eden; so that LIE continues to cause immeasurable suffering and death among mankind. And, for those who are found still DENYING, DISMISSING, defying and disobeying Jehovah/Yahweh the Universal Sovereign's own clearly given true scriptural commands and warning words come Armageddon Day, which is VERY SOON, they will, by Divinely-given scriptural standards, permanently lose their lives, their whole eternal futures that could have been theirs....

to live here, for the most part, on this Earth made into a paradise - here, in peace and happiness forever, under the perfect global Rule of Jehovah's appointed perfect King, His Son, Jesus Christ - in the earthly part of the REAL, SCRIPTURAL "KINGDOM COME", which this song borrowed the term/allusion of, but has come to fail to do justice to: Many people have now used this song as their heart-and-mind soundtrack by which TO SHUT OUT the VITAL scriptural instruction their own Maker has purposely offered to them for their own good, the good of others, reconciliation with their own Maker, and the preservation of their lives - their answer back to their Maker has been (for their choices of words and action), "NO - it's [and You are) NOT "what I'm looking for", Creator of me."

Get over it | Reviewer: Fergi | 6/10/12

Religion has and always will be a subject that brings out passionate debate. Don't think for a second that what you think & "preach, is "gospel". It is merely your interpretation. If you get angry at people & the world about their interpretation, then you don't have a pure heart. This world has billions of individuals, & thus have the "God given" right to say & believe what they want without being judged by individuals who "think" they know better. You don't. By the way, gorgeous song, love it. Enjoy each precious day on this beautiful planet, because life is way too short. My love to you all.
