I Like Giants Lyrics - Kimya Dawson

Review The Song (20)

When I go for a drive I like to pull off to the side
Of the road, turn out the lights, get out and look up at the sky
And I do this to remind me that I'm really, really tiny
In the grand scheme of things and sometimes this terrifies me

But it's only really scary cause it makes me feel serene
In a way I never thought I'd be because I've never been
So grounded, and so humbled, and so one with everything
I am grounded, I am humbled, I am one with everything

Rock and roll is fun but if you ever hear someone
Say you are huge, look at the moon, look at the stars, look at the sun
Look at the ocean and the desert and the mountains and the sky
Say I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye
I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye

When I saw Geneviève I really liked it when she said
What she said about the giant and the lemmings on the cliff
She said 'I like giants
Especially girl giants
Cause all girls feel too big sometimes
Regardless of their size'

When I go for a drive I like to pull off to the side
Of the road and run and jump into the ocean in my clothes
*I'm smaller than a poppyseed inside a great big bowl
And the ocean is a giant that can swallow me whole

So I swim for all salvation and I swim to save my soul
But my soul is just a whisper trapped inside a tornado
So I flip to my back and I float and I sing
I am grounded, I am humbled, I am one with everything
I am grounded, I am humbled, I am one with everything

So I talked to Geneviève and almost cried when she said
That the giant on the cliff wished that she was dead
And the lemmings on the cliff wished that they were dead
So the giant told the lemmings why they ought to live instead

When she thought up all those reasons that they ought to live instead
It made her reconsider all the sad thoughts in her head
So thank you Geneviève, cause you take what is in your head
you make things that are so beautiful and share them with your friends

We all become important when we realize our goal
Should be to figure out our role within the context of the whole
And yeah, rock and roll is fun, but if you ever hear someone
Say you are huge, look at the moon, look at the stars, look at the sun
Look at the ocean and the desert and the mountains and the sky

Say I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye
I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye
I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye
And I don't wanna make her cry
Cause I like giants

Yeah, i frist heard this song when she played with John and hank Green (vlogbrothers) at Carnegie Hall. She was wonderful.

My friend recently asked me; why do we live, like what is it all for? But at fifteen i knew that whatever i said to her in reply i would look back on when i was much older and disagree with myself. But i think this song helped me to put together a reasonable answer;
Everything we do matters. It will matter to the next generations that follow us and although they won't remember us individually we will be remembered as a whole. As a generation of people who were grounded and humble and full of good people. Who searched high and low for the meaning of life but gave up because it doesn't really matter why we exist, the point is that we do.

- Thanks for reading.

When I first heard this song, I'm pretty sure I looked ridiculous. Mouth hanging open, possibly a raised eyebrow, and I know I was sort of whispering "how?" over and over again. I cant make sense of it, how one person can pluck such astounding meaning from the words in her head and create something that touches so many others. Lets just say I'm a fan.

Very Happy:) | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/5/11

This song is just so positive and uplifting!!!
I saw a contemporary dance piece performed to this song and it just made me feel happy inside! It's nice how she makes relevant comments on aspects of society! For once an artist is using their talent to send a message and make a difference!

raw power. | Reviewer: laineee. | 1/21/09

i think the best thing about kimya dawsons songs are the rawness.
the fact that all she needs is a guitar and words.
the messages stand out, without being preachy.
and get stuck in your head so easily.

thankyou kimya, you're music is awesome !

treasure. | Reviewer: emily | 1/21/09

So, I downloaded this song a while ago and put it on my iPod, but I always just skipped over it because I hadn't actually heard it before. Which I admit is dumb. Anyway, I finally listened to it the other night when I was laying in bed going to sleep, and for once I listened hard to the words...and it just made me so glad. Now I can't get it out of my head. It's like, how does she think of the things she does?
I love this - "We all become important when we realize our goal
Should be to figure out our role within the context of the whole."
And I love the part about the giant and the lemmings, because it makes so much sense. You give advice to someone and realize that it can apply to you. The feeling is universal and that is what I love. It's hopeful and uplifting :)

kimya rap ^__^;;; | Reviewer: karri <3 | 11/4/08

looking at how many words are in her songs, and the way in which she sings them, I actually would say that kimya sings a form a rap; an alternative, acoustic guitar, insightful rap, but a rap all the same.

Think about it.

she is very amazing btw^^

uplifting | Reviewer: twiggy | 11/1/08

it's lovley to hear this song, i watched juno and then heard this song on the radio and my family where jumping up and down like idiots, teens like me should listen to this because it sends a good image of people, and kimya is very creative- good work!

Kimya h8ah! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/8/08

i really dont like about how full on her voice is, and she sounds like shes rushed to fill the lyrics into your head. i dont want to be rushed! this is just my opinion, but yeah i have nothing agianst her, i just find her music really distasteful, although there is there is a good topic that arises in this and weight problems are a big issue to deal with things. i just think that lemmings are quite irrelivant. lol

This is my daughter and mine favorite song. It's great to have something in common with a thirteen year old.
We always play it in the car when we just drive down on Presque Isle.

It touches a special spot in your heart.
All of Kimya Dawson's music does.

wow | Reviewer: Vanessa | 2/11/08

I had this song on repeat today during my run. It was early and foggy and peaceful and ohh how this song completed everything.

I found a patch of grass and sat and listened - I've never felt so at peace.

it was terrific I am absolutely in love with Kimya's words.

i love kimya | Reviewer: candice | 1/30/08

so i'd heard the song 'anyone else but you' a couple years ago during the world soccer championship on a french commercial, and i searched for it for days before i found that the moldy peaches sung it. my friends thought i was wierd for liking something that sounded so raw.

then i started listening to kimya herself, and i have to say, this is the most amazing songs in the world. i know it by heart i have listened to it so much. it's one of the only songs that i know that makes me so happy to be here and makes me appreciate the little things in life.

i guess i should also thank genviève for being an amazing singer/song writer herself, and especially for inspiring kimya to write such an amazing, life-changing song.
