I Hope You Dance Lyrics - Lee Ann Womack
Review The Song (27)
(wait 8, 4 counts)
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat, but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
Chorus: And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance,
I hope you dance (dance), I hope you dance (dance)
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin’ might mean takin’ chances, but they're worth takin’
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it's worth makin’
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out, reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance,
I hope you dance.. (time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance... (rolling us along)
I hope you dance...(tell me who wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance.... (where those years have gone)
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance,
dance (dance) (hold for 2 4 counts), I hope you dance (dance),
I hope you dance... (dance) (time is wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance...(rolling us along)
I hope you dance (dance) (tell me who wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance.. (dance)(where those years have gone)
(tell me(dance) who wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(where(dance) those years have gone)
(wait 8 4 counts)

I'm Dancing the Night Away | Reviewer: Ricky | 1/3/14
As soon as Lee Ann comes in with the first sentence, my eyes begin to well up and when she gets to, "I hope you still feel small when you're standing by the ocean," I can't hold the tears back. I lost my best friend of six years to suicide four years ago this February. I had never heard of this song until I watched Tyler Perry's "The Family That Preys" and I didn't give this song much thought then. After spending $9.99 on Google Play Music, I began trying to build my music library again and this song just deeply sat in my soul for some reason. All day today, I've listened and sung along in the midst of my silent tears. Inaki, you will forever dance in my heart and as Lee Ann suggests, "May you never take one single breath for granted. God forbid love ever leave you empty-handed." I will always love and miss you, my love. RIP
For my son | Reviewer: Jo Murphy | 5/26/13
When I first heard this song I was in college. I now have a 4 year old son who just a month ago missed being killed in our apartment fire. If he didn't get up for a drink of water he would have been in his room. 10 mins. after he woke up the smoke alarm went off and we opened up his bedroom door and his bed and room were full of flames. I thank God everyday for saving my son. I think of this song and I hope he understands to live by this song. He must be going to do something great. I love you Josef "J.T."

Since the first time I heard this song it got me teary eyed...my daughter was about five during this time and I vowed to buy it and play it in her quinceanera, sweet fifteen. Everytime my sister hears it on the radio she calls me so I can tune to it, it's beautiful and every mother's wish for their daughter :)

This song reminds me of my 2 step-daughters. Sadly, their father and I are no longer together, but remain friends. This song represents for me, all the wishes I had/have for them in their lives. We all got 'stuck' in the pain of divorce, and this song reminds me of how I hope their little spirits soar despite hardships. Also, one can't help but reflect on how little we all felt, standing by the ocean, 'jumping waves'.
