This song describes millions' of peoples' lives,from one point of view it's about people who "love eachother" but really hate eachother and it's saying why do we even get on if we hate eachother? I agree with below,another meaning of this song..

Y'know, my girlfriend of a few months broke up with me recently. Took it pretty hard, as you could imagine. So I decided to play a song for her outside the school with my band (10X, you'll learn it soon enough) Well I wrote her a love song, and then a cover of "Forever" and finally, I Hate Everything About You. Thats basically my way of saying, hey, screw you, here I am, everyone loves me, sucks to be you doesnt it? Cold, eh? Hey, shes gotta learn somehow.
