The collapse of the economy brought about an end to this hedonism for many. The song was written long before all that of course, but it holds special meaning now. Over indulgence through monetary luxuries and drugs and drink to forget about responsibilities and inner turmoil. It's simply time to grow up, as fun as it had been to be in a haze of satin sheets, chandeliers, caviar, cabernet, and fine cocaine. Through out this song there is a fine melody hiden in the pianos notes; and i find that the slightly louder chorus is a nice touch, great word once again Billy joel!
