Queen I'm Going Slightly Mad Lyrics

Last updated: 11/09/2012 12:54:59 PM

Words and music by Queen

When the outside temperature rises
And the meaning is oh so clear
One thousand and one yellow daffodils
Begin to dance in front of you - oh dear
Are they trying to tell you something
You're missing that one final screw
You're simply not in the pink my dear
To be honest you haven't got a clue

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - ooh oh
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Oh dear

I'm one card short of a full deck
I'm not quite the shilling
One wave short of a shipwreck
I'm not my usual top billing
I'm coming down with a fever
I'm really out to sea
This kettle is boiling over
I think I'm a banana tree
Oh dear

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - uh huh
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Oh dear

Ooh ooh ah ah
Ooh ooh ah ah
I'm knitting with only one needle
Unravelling fast it's true
I'm driving only three wheels these days
But my dear how about you

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened
It finally happened - oh yes
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Just very slightly mad

And there you have it

At least according to the Queen documentaries, this was written in the very end of Freddies career. Aids was getting over him and he really felt like going insane. Also even with very very heavy makeup you can still see that his face and teeth are almost dropping off. Making of this video, is one of the saddest things of Queen as you see, once great dancer and king of music, struggles to even stand up.

Love the song and love Queen.

Story..... | Reviewer: Poppy | 5/22/12

It's a long story. I was looking at cat videos on YouTube--ironic, yeah-- and I found a video with a cat scared of a Bambi stuffed animal. This song was in the background, and I wanted to know what it was. Comments told me the name. I loved the song, and I love it even more now. It is one of my faves ever!

Dementia- | Reviewer: Jawn Deacy | 9/17/10

While Freddie wasn't afflicted (or at least, not noticeably so), by AIDS-induced dementia, there are definitely darker undertones on the song.

I won't say more since I don't know anything, but I think this song does touch on AIDS-induced dementia, perhaps Freddie did feel that way. There are treatments for most types of dementia, so he could have been afflicted and recovered.

THE mastermind | Reviewer: lischen | 10/2/09

I really like this special song because it really makes me think. on the one hand it's a quite and unvaried melody but on teh other hand the lyrics are very serious when you really think about it. I like it very much and I have the feeling, like Tina, that Freddie souns kind of insane while singing it.

But it always hurts to listen to this special piece because it's at least a strong allusion to his fatal disease . . . it makes me very sad.

But the song is still a great one!

"Freddie Mercury, may the Power of Almighty God bring Peace, Love and Joy to our immortal King of Queen, as he sings and dances among the Angels." <3

I personally didn't care too much for the music of this song (it was too constant and didn't seem to change very much with the vocals). However, I've always love how this song was sang. Freddie truly did sound insane when singing this and I think it gave the song a very unique charm because of it. And as always, the change of dynamics was greatly appreciated. R.I.P. Freddie.
P.S.:EmuFan- that's a very interesting note, but I'm pretty sure that's not true.

This one is growing on me... | Reviewer: EmuFan | 3/22/08

To begin with, i didn´t like it. However, after giving it a chance, i think it is a really good song. It is certainly a very different song.

Rumor has it that this song is about how Freddie felt in his head when the disease was going strong, that one of his symptoms caused him to get dimentia or something...I really don´t know, it is interesting to think of though.
