I'll Wait Lyrics - Van Halen

Review The Song (4)

(Words by Van Halen)

You've got me captured
I'm under your spell
I guess I'll never learn
I have your picture
Yes I know it well
Another page is turned

Are you for real?
It's so hard to tell
From just a magazine
Yeah, you just smile and the picture sells
Look what that does to me

I'll wait
'Til your love comes down
I'm coming straight for your heart
No way
sponsored links
You can stop me now
As fine as you are

I wrote a letter
And told her these words
That meant a lot to me
I never sent it
She wouldn't have heard
Her eyes don't follow me

And while she watches
I can never be free
Such good photography

I'll wait
'Til your love comes down
I'm coming straight for your heart
No way
You can stop me now
As fine as you are

(Guitar Solo)

You can't imagine
What your image means
The pages come alive
Your magic free
To everyone who reads
Heartbreakin' motor drive

Are you for real?
It's so hard to tell
From just a magazine
Yeah, you just smile and the picture sells
Look what that does to me

I'll wait
'Til your love comes down
I'm coming straight for your heart
No way
You can stop me now
As fine as you are

I'll wait
'Til your love comes down
I'm coming straight for your heart
No way
You can stop me now
As fine as you are

I'll wait

The song's subject is a woman wearing men's underwear in a Calvin Klein print media advertisement. Roth wrote the lyrics while the advertisement was tacked onto his Sony Trinitron television

Best song off VH's album 1984 | Reviewer: Renaissance Dan | 6/22/11

Great song. I think it is the best tune on their "1984" album.
What I really love the most is Michael Anthony's heavy, creeping bass line.
As far as what it is about I always thought it was about Valerie Bertinelli. It would make sense as the album was released a couple years after her and Eddie got married. She is obvious a total babe too.

What's it mean? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/5/10

I love this song - crank it up, that's the only way to play it!

But I've alway wondered - what the hell does that mean, "Ill wait till your love comes down"? Ok, he's in love with a model in a magazine, right? What's he saying - the price of the magazine is too high? He's got her picture up on the wall and he can't do anything until it comes down? She's poised over his you-know-what and he's waiting for her to come down on him? What!?

Bit weird for Van Halen, but really good. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/6/07

An Awesome song. My personal favorite Van Halen song (or one of them). It's kind of funny and kind of sad how it's about some kid falling in love with a porn star...
