Hymn Lyrics
Artist(Band):Jars Of Clay
Review The Song (2)Print the Lyrics
Oh refuge of my hardened heart
Oh fast pursuing lover come
As angels dance 'round Your throne
My life by captured fare You own

Not silhouette of trodden faith
Nor death shall not my steps be guide
I'll pirouette upon mine grave
For in Your path I'll run and hide

Chorus:

Oh gaze of love so melt my pride
That I may in Your house but kneel
And in my brokenness to cry
Spring worship unto Thee

When beauty breaks the spell of pain
The bludgeoned heart shall burst in vain
But not when love be pointed king
And truth shall Thee forever reign

[Chorus]

Sweet Jesus carry me away
From cold of night, and dust of day
In ragged hour or salt worn eye
Be my desire, my wellspring lie

[Chorus x 2]

Spring worship unto Thee
Spring worship unto Thee

Review about Hymn

Victory over suffering-refuge in God's Love | Reviewer: Kathy Sandborg | 7/3/2007
The lyrics of this poem (hymn)have spoken to my soul like no other. During my life, my heart has had plenty opportunity to become hardened by suffering. God has pursued me shamelessly, and captured my life-He now owns it.
My faith in God is stronger now, I am not afraid to die, as long as I know He watches over me. He knows me, the truth-even if I lie to myself. I will take refuge in the way He wants me to live.

Hymn a moving tribute to faith | Reviewer: Daniel Loss | 1/11/2005

I need to preface my review by stating that I am an emotional guy who can be easily moved to tears. The soothing melody that accompanies the old English style lyrics smoothly brings one to a place of worship, recognizing both the reality of suffering and the hope of the Christian's victory over suffering. The clever turning of phrases, such as "nor death shall not my steps be guide" renders the lyrics a wonderful work in classical poetry. The song has found a permanant place on my worship CD.
