Hunger Strike Lyrics

Review The Song (19)Print the Lyrics
I don't mind stealing bread
From the mouths of decadence
But I can't feed on the powerless
When my cup's already overfilled,
But it's on the table
The fire is cooking
And they're farming babies
While slaves are working
Blood is on the table
And the mouths are choking
But I'm growing hungry

I don't mind stealing bread
From the mouths of decadence
But I can't feed on the powerless
When my cup's already overfilled
But it's on the table
The fires cooking
And they're farming babies
While the slaves are all working
And it's on the table
The mouths are choking
But I'm growing hungry
I'm going hungry

"For the record this song was done before Pearl Jam existed. This song was actually the first time Eddie Vedder was recorded professionally.

That being said, it's an absolutely beautiful song. This was before Chris Cornell sold out."

Not true. This song was recording and released in 1991, Pearl Jam formed in 1990. PJ's first album was Ten, released in August '91, where as ToaD was released in April of that year. Not much difference.

Amazing song nonetheless.

Really great song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/23/09

i heard this song for the first time a few years back on the radio and thought it was amazing when i found out who plays thee song i looked into the band and noticed that all the band members are people that i have loved for years and them all being together for one mother love bone tribute is completely amazing. i have been a pearl jam fan for more than 9 years and i love sounddgarden. i listened to mother love bone before i knew who pearl jam was. when i found out about this tribute project i was amazed. chris and eddie are like the best singers of all time and them together in one song is insane!!!!!!! Yeah, this song is super dope. I first heard it by Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington at a Linkin Park concert and kinda had it in my head since. That song and Black hole sun actually got me interested in Chris Cornell. I was always more into Kurt but now I like them both. Great song. Fosho

hunger strike | Reviewer: Jess | 1/30/09

this is probably one of the most emotional songs ive ever heard pearl jam just rocks everything they do and i didnt think another band could capture that as well as them but i think temple of the dog was an amazing choice for them to work with this is a beautiful song

Absolutely Awesome song.... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/3/08

The feeling alone in this song sends chills down my spine! Its so moving, definitely a classic grunge song. I remember singing this with several close friends on my wedding night, one of my favorite memories of all time. :)

terrific song!! great meaning | Reviewer: Triste08 | 1/21/08

first time Ive heard this song (on a radio station that I listen to) I was touched by it. the music and words put together.. its just great! its a song with a message - short and vague but powerful. everytime I hear it, it just gets to me in a way thats indescribable. goodness.. I really like this song. and I kinda dont know why but its magnificant!!

kutha ka mandir | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/23/07

this song is great. I saw pearl jam in santa barbara and chris cornell came out and did this song with the band. It was amazing. They also did Reach Down which sounded better live cuz chris was struggling to hit the high notes at the end of hunger strike.

What Happened? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/19/07

The first time I heard this song I almost cried. You just don't hear songs like this anymore and I don't understand that.

Just... wow. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/6/07

Yes, I must agree with the previous poster, that this is the grunge anthem. Before I knew this song, I probably would have said Smells Like Teen Spirit, but this defines the era for me. Eddie and Chris's voices just get to you, they're so powerful and almost haunting, but in a good way.
