------ About the song Golden Brown performed by Hugh Cornwell

The song is about heroin. Golden Brown is the drug, with a texture like sun (warm, embracing). It lays him down and runs with his mind: he is tripping. The lyric about heading west, is the opium trade spreading west from china. The rest you can pretty much work out.
