Homecoming Lyrics - Green Day

Review The Song (19)

I. The Death of St. Jimmy
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
My heart is beating from me,
I am standing all alone,
Please call me only if you are coming home,
Waste another year flies by,
Waste a night or two,
You taught me how to live

In the streets of shame,
Where you've lost your dreams in the rain,
There's no signs of hope,
The stems and seeds of the last of the dope,
There's a glow of light,
The St. Jimmy is the spark in the night,
Bearing gifts and trust,
A fixture in the city of lust,

"What the hells your name,
What's your pleasure what is your pain?
Do you dream too much?
Do you think what you need is a crutch?"

In the crowd of pain, St. Jimmy comes without any shame,
He says "We're fucked up,
But we're not the same,
And mom and dad are the ones you can blame"

Jimmy died today

He blew his brains out into the bay,
In the state of mind its my own private suicide

II. East 12th Street
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Well nobody cares,
Well nobody cares,
Does anyone care if nobody cares?
Well nobody cares,
Well nobody cares,
Does anyone care if nobody cares?

Jesus filling out paperwork now,
At the facility on east 12th Street,
He's not listening to a word now,
He's in his own world,
And he's daydreaming

He'd rather be doing something else now,
Like cigarettes and coffee with the underbelly,
His life's on the line with anxiety now,
'Cuz she had enough,
And he had plenty

Somebody get me out of here,
Anybody get me out of here,
Somebody get me out of here,
Get me the fuck right out of here

So far away,
I don't want to stay,
Get me outta here right now,
I just want to be free,
Is there a possibility?
Get me outta here right now,
This life-like dream ain't for me!

III. Nobody Likes You (Written and sung by Mike Dirnt)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
I fell asleep while watching Spike TV,
After 10 cups of coffee,
And you're still not here,
Dreamin of a song,
But something went wrong,
And you can't tell anyone,
'Cuz no one's here

Left me here alone,
And I should've stayed home,
After 10 cups of coffee,
I'm thinking,
Where'd you go?

Nobody likes you,
Everyone left you,(Where'd You go)
They're all out without you,
Havin' fun,(Where'd you go)
Everyone left you,
Nobody likes you,(Where'd you go)
They're all out without you,
Havin' fun,(Where'd you go)
(go, go ,go)

IV. Rock And Roll Girlfriend (Written and sung by Tre Cool)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Tre: Geez.....*sigh*...
-----
I got a rock n roll band,
I got a rock n roll life,
I got a rock n roll girlfriend,
And another ex-wife

I got a rock n roll house,
I got a rock n roll car,
I play the shit out the drums,
And I can play the guitar

I got a kid in New York,
I got a kid in the Bay,
I haven't drank or smoked nothin',
In over 22 days,(dont wanna be an american idiot!)
So get off of my case
off of my case
off. of. my. case!

V. We're Coming Home Again
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Here they come marching down the street, (ooh, ooh)
Like a desperation murmur of a heart beat, (ooh, ooh)
Coming back from the edge of town,
Underneath their feet

The time has come and it's going nowhere, (ooh, ooh)
Nobody ever said that life was fair now, (ooh, ooh)
Go-carts and guns are treasures they will bear,
In the summer heat

The world is spinning round and round,
Out of control again,
the 7-11 to the fear of breaking down,
So send my love a letterbomb,
And visit me in hell,
We're the ones going

Home.
We're coming home again
Home.
We're coming home again

I started fuckin' running,
as soon as my feet touched ground,
We're back in the barrio,
And to you and me, that's Jingletown thats

Home.
We're coming home again,
Home.
We're coming home again,
Home.
We're coming home again,
Home.
We're coming home again,
Home.
We're coming home again,
Home.
We're coming home again,
Home.
We're coming home again,
Home.
We're coming home again,

Nobody likes you,
Everyone left you,
They're all out without you,
Havin' fun!

The Musical | Reviewer: Jimmy | 11/3/11

There's kind of a musical. Which I've seen. On Broadway. It explains the story arc of the album pretty damn effectively. I'm pretty sure you can find it on wikipedia. Saint Jimmy and Jesus of Suburbia are two different characters. As are the narrators of Rock&Roll Life and Nobody Likes You. The play has three main characters. Four if you acknowledge Jimmy as a main.

Epic album! | Reviewer: Izzie | 2/17/11

Personally, I thought this whole story began with Jesus of suburbia, the 2nd song on the album, where Jimmy's quite lost, and doesn't really know what's going on, so he runs away. (Helps if you've seen the vid to that!) And then this is the 2nd to last song on the album, and I thought it was about his life being such a mess (What with the dealing of pot, being arrested, breaking up with his girlfriend etc...) That he kills himself, cos in the first few lines it says
"Jimmy died today
He blew his brains out into the bay,
In the state of mind its my own private suicide"
I thought the rest of the song was what had happened through the events leading up to his suicide, like flashbacks almost. And then that the next song on the album "Whatsername" Is in his last moments he's thinking of that girl he loved, and thinking where she is now, and what she's doing, hence why it says "Did she ever marry oh Whatshisface?" and "Now I wonder where Whatsername has been"
These are just my thoughts on it. :)

Story | Reviewer: GD RULES | 1/10/11

Homecoming is the return of JoS. After the letterbomb he realized what a d-bag he had become in the city which is what the song St. Jimmy is about. So JoS quits his childish games (thus no more SJ) but his life become borings and eventually the police chase him out of the city (here they come marching down the street), so JoS returns home having high intentions but that's not how it is and still nobody cares about him.

Love this song but.... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/4/10

I love this song but I just find "Rock and Roll Girlfriend" extremely annoying. I know it probably adds more details to the story of J of S/St. Jimmy's life, but they could have made it sound less trashy.

Green Day <3

Green Day | Reviewer: AdelaideGirl | 1/19/10

This is an awesome song by Green Day. I think it is just a great song and that there is no need to look into the meaning of everything. Green Day are a political band and this song, like so many others, is going to be about politics. That said, Green Day are an awesome band!

Homecoming | Reviewer: Joey | 9/21/09

One should look at this song as one of the final chapters in the story. If American Idiot is about a punk kid who gets bored of his town, and moves to the big city, but winds up dealing drugs in the shitty part of town, falling in love with some sort of underground rebel wannabe, and then being dumped and laughed at, then this song would be the result of that. He is fed up with being st. Jimmy in a city that doesnt care about him, and after being arrested (assumably for pot) at "the Facility on east 12th street", he goes straight back to his friends who are going crazy without him back in whatever his hometown was. hence homecoming.

wake me up when september ends not about a soldier, its about how billie joes dad died when he was 10 from cancer. i think this is a super unique song cuz they all sing a part of it, mike and tre wrote there parts separately, and this is the only song that they really sing a big part in a song.

re: soldier | Reviewer: anonymous | 7/18/09

i think this is more about what is happening to Jesus after Letter Bomb. he's kind of losing himself to society and grief because of her. (hence the "What the hell's your name..." etc)
also, the whole "get me out of here" part is about Jesus wanting his St. Jimmy personality back after having killed him off.
some parts of the song don't really fit in with my ideas though... (Rock and roll girlfriend... but i don't think that really fits in with the story at all.)
the point is, this has nothing to do with a soldier. the only song that has anything to do with a soldier is "When September Ends", which is about Billy's father dying.

not about a soldier | Reviewer: cdhbu | 3/24/09

this song isnt about a soldier at all .. it is about billy joe and what his life was like as the jesus of suburbia its a sequal the the jesus of suburbia track his alter ego is st jimmy, his commiting of suicide was not phisicaly it was 'metaphorical' he was getting rid of his alter ego the st jimmy who brought so much pain upon him..

Geez | Reviewer: Me | 3/16/09

Well, all I want to say is that, yes, this is a good song, but you've got to look at the general meaning of it. If you look around at the time in which this song was written, during the days when Bush was President, I'd say that this song is, more or less, about a soldier.

The whole album, I guess, is in one way or another a recollection of stories and memories about an imaginary soldier that was or "is in" the Iraqi war going on right now.

Like in this song, St. Jimmy could have been a fellow soldier.
In East 12th Street, either the soldier wanted to get out of war and move on to heaven but "Jesus is busy filling out paperwork" or he just wants to go home; "Get me the f*ck right out of here"
Nobody Likes You could have been a time before the soldier joined the Armed Forces, or maybe just those thoughts made him want to join the Army. Rock 'n' Roll Girlfriend could've been just that: the things he left at home, i.e. his girlfriend, his house, his car, his kid, etc. And of course, We're Coming Home Again is his long-awaited return home.

Just some thoughts. ^^ I know this was long, sorry bout that.

awesome songs!!! | Reviewer: Lauren | 5/30/08

I love how they always mention little parts from different songs e.g they mention the line 'dont wanna be an american idiot' in Homecoming and they mention Jimmy in a lot of songs, they mention Jesus of Suburbia in Letterbomb. :)
Sorry for going on and on!!
