Home Is Where You Hang Yourself Lyrics
Artist(Band):Every Time I Die
sign my farewell with the chimes of clock radios 7a.m. sun reveals a failed
cherubim dangling from the rafters like a sentimental ghost floating midway
between the curse of the sky and you this noose carries what atrophied wings
can't don't you want me disenchanted a deader shade of sorry buried from the
neck up in a slipknot dragging my feet through the dead air suspended a
fallen chair length from the ground when you found me when they finally
found me this halo fit my throat I am your contorted angel writhing at a
loss for wings swelled tongues tell of brighter eyes a severed spine of
better days like the deafened clicks of a blue lipped off the beat pendulum
I just wanted to be something more than enough of my God I don't think I'm
breathing Jesus Christ when did I stop breathing oh my God I can't hear
myself breathing this is all I know of flying my eyes set on you like stains
in memory of romance

Reality check... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/17/2008Okay, first off, I am sorry for those who are mourning the death of that young man.
However... I concur that this song had no intention of driving anyone to the point of an "artistic" suicide, or however his life may have ended. That's as moronic as the poeple who blamed Marilyn Manson for Columbine. I detest Manson but he never directly told those kids to go and shoot their classmates down. Obvoiusly, in BOTH cases of ETID/Manson, there was something more psychologically deeper at fault. As the last user pointed out; this student was on ADFD medication - which, correct me if I'm wrong but is known to cause emotional instabilities...
Thirdly, although the song can be taken literally as a song about suicide, I think another look at the lyrics and the band's lyrical style is in place.. Keith Buckley is known for being metaphorical.
The first time I heard this song/saw the lyrics, it came across more as a song of ultimate heartbreak - the feeling of suffocation when you lose the one perseon who makes every day worth getting up for - "Sign my farewell with the chimes of clock radios" IE the feeling of another dead day.. or better yet "I am your contorted angel writhing at a loss for wings" - the wings being the support of your lover... I'm not saying that this is necessarily the meaning intended by the band, but a majority of their songs take on a poetic double meaning, and that's what I pulled from this one.

The young man that took his life was a 4.0 student. Tall good looking kid with everything going for him. A doctor prescribed an ADD medicine for him, because he felt he was not concentrating in class. Instead of telling him to get some sleep, he gave him Aderal xr. The drug caused thoughts in his head, and then he listened to this song. Why not write "GOOD LYRICS" about something positive, instead of dark, destructive motivations.
For gods sake. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/24/2008
"
a bright young man with a bright future, for no reason at all, after viewing these lyrics online took his own life as described in this "song" I see these band members are still alive...? you call this entertaining??"
This is one of 3 things;
1) The most far-fetched piece of crap story ever.
2) A shit excuse for someone who was going to kill themselves anyway.
3) The worst waste of space human being as to do something based on a song. Anyone who would make a decision like that based on a songs lyrics was using up everyone elses oxygen anyway.

" for no reason at all" Why would he do it if there was no reason? I know that losing a friend is painful, I've witnessed it first hand, but blaming a song isn't going to take it all away. I'm sorry that it happened to you but just because someone seems happy on the outside, doesn't mean it's true on the inside... :\
Anyway, the sadness, anger and bitterness that soon gives way to panic at the end of this song, truely shows how great they are at telling a story.
Well, mission accomplished. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/6/2007
"If you want to blame a song for somebody hanging themselves, then the song's mission was accomplished." Can you really think like? Do you thinky our stupid fucking friend heard the song and said, "Okay!"
If he did, well, mission accomplished.
C'mon | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/3/2007
C'mon what do you want us to do? Avoid all songs that deal with suicide incase someone does it? All songs that deal with violence incase we fight? all songs about drugs incase we get addicted? all songs about sex incase we get Std's? i mean what do you really expect to happen?
hmmm.. | Reviewer: Eddie@ As Venice Burns | 9/28/2007
You can blame this persons death on a song as much as you want, but in reality, you all know damn well it was most likely on a much larger scale. I'm sorry to those of you who lost a friend or family member, but honestly, dont try and blame it all on a few well written lyrics. I really want to know how many other people have listened to this song and thought, "Hmmm, i think ill take my own life now". I've listened to this song hundreds of times and not once has any thought close to that ever crossed my mind. Hey, great job trying to, once again, pass the buck on to music.

C'mon guys, it's not ETID's fault that this guy done that... i mean, this song didnt kill him, he must of been depressed or something to even think about doing that.
But i am sorry that someone done that to themselves...
