Holiday Lyrics - Green Day

Review The Song (136)

Say, hey!

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame (Hey!)
The shame
The ones who died without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called "Faith and Misery" (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protester has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men (Hey!)

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

(Hey!)

"The representative from California has the floor"

Sieg Heil to the president Gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who criticize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause, because we're outlaws yeah!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

This is our lives on holiday

Holiday | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/10/13

The term "holiday"has nothing to do with 9/11, I mean, the writers aren't referring to a date or a vacation. When soldiers are deployed to action they say the soldiers are on holiday. ('Killing is fun' brainwashing) Just like they call the place of the war the theatre...(the director/president yells action and all of the actors/soldiers play their roles)

Green day's got a cool concept | Reviewer: Eknath | 8/8/13

Americans are world's no. 1 fraudsters because no one who by birth live there are mostly illiterates. They think that the world's 1st astronaut who had been onto the moon was an American but what is true about it is they had robbed the Russian technologies.Or else they would be the 1st.Not only that,in NASA most of 93% of the scientists of other countries. The remaining 7% are also not perfectly Americans.I think some of them might be devoted Americans. Not only in Space technologies, but,in many such other cases. So,"the subliminal mind #### America

Just enjoy a good song! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/4/13

I've been conscious about mean comments lately, so I'll keep them to myself. Green Day is simply a band that has lots of talent, unlike many other celebs we worship today. This song was made for the enjoyment of fans, and not to be picked apart. I don't think what the verses mean is what Green Day wants us to focus on, but the chorus, since it is repeated over and over. But could we just stop analyzing lyrics that are obvious and enjoy the good music while we still have it?

green day biggest fan ;) | Reviewer: SaM | 7/15/11

This song is awesome!! same with the other songs of green day they rock!!! and honestly i think its stupid to make a war becuz of song its suppose to be fun however its your opinions but stop arguing and start enjoying.. :D

**sigh** | Reviewer: Blood Bird21 | 6/2/11

you all are putiing too much into interpretation. American Idiot is, yeah, rock opera, and yeah, about war. but Billie Joe interprets 4 u. just check the live performance of Holiday during "Bullet In A Bible."

"THIS NEXT SONG IS A BIG 'FUCK YOU' TO ALL THE POLITICIANS......THIS SONGS'S CALLED 'HOLIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY'"

"THIS SONG IS NOT ANTI-AMERICA, IT'S ANTI-......WAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!"

Great song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/15/11

I love this song it's so cool. I'm a huge fan of punk rock. 4 sum reason a lot of punk fans hate green day because they "sold out". I don't judge bands by popularity I judge them by how good they are.

I luv holidays | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/2/11

If you don't like greenday, or have never heard of them, I personally think you need to get a life. Greenday is the kind of band where you know all of their songs even if you don't know the lyrics. Thats why I was looking them up! :)

You're both right | Reviewer: Lochgelly | 2/8/11

Funny...cause both Dan and Marcon are right....

On it's face, American idiot is about both St. Jimmy a/k/a The Jesus of Suburbia AND it is about political protest of what was happening in AMerica at the time. I mean COME ON! IT was (still is?) the Age of Paranoia.

That is what was so special about the album...it was a rock opera about a boy getting lost and found and lost again AND it was a political protest against the "hurricane of freekin' lies."

You misinterpreted the whole thing moron. | Reviewer: Marcon Segrave | 12/30/10

you idiots. Holiday, along with the whole American Idiot album is about the life and story of St. Jimmy. Listen to the song and lyrics of the whole album one by one in the right order. It tells of being a teenager, finding love, losing love, depression and drugs along with alot of other things. Don't misinterpret it.

An accurate interpretation of Lyrics: | Reviewer: Dan | 10/26/10

This is my interpretation of this song. I consider myself somewhat cultured and follow politics/world events fairly closly so I think the interpretation is accurate...

Say, hey!

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon in flame (Hey!)
The shame
The ones who died without a name

**This could be talking about a couple things. One, it could be making reference to war in general. Bombs dropping from the sky like rain and those killed. However I personally think this is talking about 9/11. Its the start of the song and 9/11 was the start of the war. When the towers fell ash rained down all over New York. I remember 9/11 well and in alot of ways it seemed like Armageddon. Thousands of people died in the attack. They weren't fameous people with recognizable names. They were just regular people in the wrong place at the wrong time.**

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called "Faith and Misery" (Hey!)
And bleed, the company lost the war today
**After 9/11 many politicians were suggesting/demanding/"howling" different solutions. And just like politicians, they fed from our misery and asked us to have faith in them. I think the company losing the war today, reflects that when we were attacked the terrorists targeted ground zero.

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

**The chorus is pretty self explainatory. 9/11 and the era as a whole is the dawning of a new era. I think the holiday is 9/11. The whole world stopped that day and every year on 9/11 most Americans take note. 9/11 or Sept. 11, means much more than a date. It was an event. Its a holiday in its own rite.**

Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protester has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side
**This is where the song begins talking about the post 9/11 world, after we invaded Iraq. The drums of war are pounding and anti-war protesters are doing their thing. But the protests do little and have little influence on policy.**

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men (Hey!)
A gag, a plastic bag on a monument

**Pro-war Politicians feed americans rhetoric to justify war. Its like preaching to a congregation on Sunday "AMEN" getting them fired up! A flag wrapped around a score of men are flag covered caskets coming back from Iraq. All we really did was go over there and censor "put a plastic bag" on monuments of saddam hussein. I think most ppl remember the news coming in of the troops and Iraqis pulling down the Saddam statues, some of the statues heads shouded in plastic bags.

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday

"The representative from California has the floor"

Trials by fire, setting fire

**I've seen this part misinterpreted alot. The first part is obviously talking about President Bush. He was often compared to Hitler by the left. The punishment for the people who attacks us on 9/11 was..."BOMBS AWAY." We really did some France hating back then. Remember freedom fries? lol All because they disagreed with our government. They weren't with us so they were against us. Bang Bang goes the broken glass, is just the sounds of war and destruction. Kill the fags that don't agree, again implies that "you're either with us or against us". It does not have anything to do with GOP views toward homosexuality, except possibly they'd be the ones to call someone they didn't like a "fag". Trials by fire setting fire, alludes to witch trials. You could see if someone was a witch by setting them on fire. If they burned, then they were not a witch. But by then, they have already been punished before their "trial" proved their innocence.

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

Uh, I like this song | Reviewer: Ani | 9/30/10

I like song.
I'm not really a fan of Green Day but I like Holiday.
The melody of the song, pretty much.
I read the lyrics and it's not exactly what I agree with but I just don't take that personally so I can simply enjoy the song...
I don't like pushing my opinions to people but I'm just gonna type what I think about some comments people posted because I'm bored.
Those people who are insulting others because others said something negative about this band, I think you are either too young to think what you are really saying or very unconsiderate. Someone doesn't like what you like the you insult them isn't very mature.
Unless you like something, you can't look it up? That doesn't even makes sense.
Unless you have something nice to say don't say it. I agree but since this place is just mess with arguements and insults , I think that doesn't matter anymore.
Because this band sings about negative things about this country, they need to get out? No, I think everyone has something they want to complain about where they live. I don't really know any other songs by this band but if they sing about anti-American government stuff all the time, it does get old and annoying though. But this song isn't even that obvious about anti-American government except from the seig hail part to outlaw part, which is my least favorite because it's way too obvious about what they want to say...

Great song | Reviewer: Notorious | 8/27/10

This song is all about bush obviously. Holiday is the title and bush spent like all of his presidency vacationing.

This part is my favorite.... and i will discribe word from word pretty much. the "-" means meaning.

Sieg Heil to the president Gasman
-Sieg Heil means to salute hilter, Bush is hitler and gasman points out that bush is all for oil

Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who criticize your government
-These 3 lines is talking about 9/11. I'm not gonna go all out on them mainly because I dont think people see 9/11 as I do.

Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
-Here he is talking about the GOP and their hate to gays. Just so you know billie supports gays.

Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause, because we're outlaws yeah!
-And finally, Trails by fire means simply that the pain is not endurable. he is saying "f this, screw all of it." This isnt meant for me and just because we are veiwed as outlaws that means we suffer for it...? he questions that

AND HERE ARE SOME OTHER ONES AS WELL...
Hear the drum pounding out of time
Another protester has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find, the money's on the other side.
-This is stating how people questioned George Bush and how he was using his money. For all who dont know Bush got all of his friends rich while in presidency and thats why are economy went to crap now.

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around a score of men (Hey!)
A gag, a plastic bag on a monument
-Simply the protestors and the people who claimed 9/11 was a govt conspiracy.

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon in flame (Hey!)
The shame
The ones who died without a name
-I think in this its more of a two way, becuase it can relate to 9/11 (which im sure thats it) but it can also relate to the war as well.

But anyways those are simply the interpretations of someone who doesnt feel the need to go way way into it but just for the ones who didnt understand.

Fake | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/8/10

Sieg Heil means Hail Victory. Think about the 11 of september and the defeat of France in ww2, the entering of the Wehrmacht, the german army in Paris, and marching under the Arch of Triumph and visiting of the Eiffel towers. When Paris was under nazi ocupation, the citizens of Paris weren't alowed to visit the Eiffel tower, and the WTC were destroid. About Bush... well. Perhaps the thirst for oil, and Hitler's desire to exterminate the jews. This song it's a call to awake from this mentality of making a fortune whatever it's the cost. Now this econimic crysis. I am from Romania, and in my country it's a disaster because we have a corupt guvernment and after 20 years of fake democracy the people it's still thinking like comunists. And all people sais that in the comunist time it were more better. And all of this it's driving me crazy. Even my father it's working in Italy because in our country everithing it's expensive and the wages are to little to have a more than decent life.

Please don't tell me you're insulting anyone else and their intelligence; typing the way you do.

Don't call yourself a big Green Day fan just because the music sounds good to you, I doubt you can even grasp what this song means being so young and naive.

Noone cares what you think you bigoted, semi-literate cock. You wanna live in a fascist state where all dissent is surpressed then Bush and Hitler must be your heroes, which is not surprising with you possessing an IQ of 30. If you feel so strong about it, go join the army and charge the Taleban single handed (and do us all a favour by terminating your sorry existence).
