Highway Song Lyrics - Blackfoot

Review The Song (22)

Well, another day, another dollar, after I've sang and hollered
Oh, it's my way of living, and I can't change a thing.
Another town is drawing near. Oh, baby, I wish you were here!
But the only way I can see you, darlin', is in my dreams.
It's a highway song.. you sing it on and on.. on and on..

Well, the hurt you leave behind, it's the hurt that's on your mind.
Oh, and last night's show took its toll on me.
Well the city lights fly by me, as I lay my body in my bed,
Oh, and dreams of you Dance through my head.
It's a highway song.. you sing it on and on.. on and on..
Highway song.. is as lonely.. as the road I'm on..

It's those big wheels are ready to roll. We've be flyin' high and so low.
Lord, and all this madness, ain't as crazy as it seems.
Everywhere, they stop and stare. I'm just a stranger on this road.
Oh, I stand alone, awake in my dreams.
Highway song.. you sing it on and on.. on and on..
Highway song.. is as lonely.. as the road I'm on..
Highway song.. you sing it on and on.. on and on..
Highway song.. is as lonely.. as the road I'm on..

This song will NEVER be a "has been"...... | Reviewer: BamaViK | 1/23/13

I love this song as much each time I listen to it as I did the first time that I ever heard it. Actually have it loaded to my MP3 player a couple of times just so that I don't have to go back & find it.

Reminds me of a time when life was more simple & sweet.....

Loved this song since I first heard it in '70's | Reviewer: Ray R. | 10/31/11

The slow methodical parts call to mind the mundane repetitive sometimes painfulness of life. The quick frantic parts, along with the lyrics, point to the human search for love and beauty,... for God! Awesome.

Tribute to Ronny | Reviewer: Jame | 4/30/09

Highway is a one of the best. I saw Blackfoot and Rickey in Finland at summer 1985 and changed a few words with him. He sang Highway song at encore for memory of Ronny van Zant. It was so wonderful. RIP all the southern guys ans rockers.

Better than Free Bird | Reviewer: Whipping Post | 1/24/09

When Highway Song came out, people said this was Blackfoot and Rickey Medlocke's attempt to keep up with Skynyrd (where Rickey had started) and come up with a rock "anthem." Well, he did, and I think it pounds Free Bird into dust. It's ironic, then, that Rickey has been back with Skynyrd for nearly 10 years now, playing the Free Bird lead every night, and never gets a chance to play his own greatest song.

And RIP to Blackfoot's Jakson "Thunderfoot" Spires, a man with a heart of gold who lived life to its fullest and the kickinest drummer in rock.

this song is sooooooooo better than any other song from my generation (middle 90s til 2007)and thats because they classic rock songs like this one have so much emotion in they lyrics and the guitar ,but in my generation is only for speed and the loudest

Gotta love it | Reviewer: Brandon | 1/31/08

Wow, this song has some good memories tied to it. My dad used to play this song along with "Come Sail Away" every night on his acoustic before me and my sisters went to sleep. This was one of the songs that got me hooked to the classics from an early age. I'm fifteen and proud to say that I wasn't alive for the recordings of about 50-75% of my favorite songs. So long live Classic Southern Rock, and let rest the souls that have given their everything to present it. Peace.

From the long gone Capital Center to the Roanoke Civic Center to the Salem Roanoke County Civic Center to the Richmond Coliseum no other band brings back memories like the Strikes and Tomcattin that rock my brain to this day. Southern Rock was the BEST and specifically Blackfoot's music was just so addictive and yet just.. I don't know but to say it was GREAT. I miss the real Blackfoot though I know Jack is gone.

Christmas Rock Spectacular | Reviewer: David Harbuck | 11/15/07

I'm from Savannah GA. We used to have a regular mid December concert series called the CRS. I saw
Blackfoot three times in the late 70s, that band rocked & Ricky medlock sang his ass off & I saw Shorty Medlock his grandfather play the harmonica on Train Train...Good times. One year I saw Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet & 38 Special...paid $8.50

wow | Reviewer: John | 10/13/07

this really brings back memories. Nothing like blackfoot. I remember them in concert several times at The Capital Center (now a parking lot for Fedex stadium). I remember avoiding the cops to have a beer and a toke.... wow!

Southern Rock | Reviewer: Al Brooks | 10/11/07

CB mentioned other southern rock classics. There is something about this song and "Green Grass and High Tides", Molly Hatchets' "Dreams I'll Never See" (granted, a remake of the Allman Bros version), and how many other seven minute or more songs that start out almost as a ballad (I freakin' hate ballads) but then rock out. This is true Southern Rock (I'm a born Montanan, so I haven't been drinking that particular Kool-Aid). It's just music that nobody lately has been able to reproduce, musically and the way it speaks to whatever gets your juices flowing (I couldn't thing of another term for what the hell I was talking about. You know what I mean.)

Amazing Song | Reviewer: clyons | 10/4/07

This is an amazing song!!! I have still yet to find a modern rock song that can compare to the classics. They just can't be beat, this being one of them!
