Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the long road ,long down to the causeway
Do they still meet there by the cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
but the highest altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
****
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Review about High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover) Comparable to the original | Reviewer: Sirenic | 9/6/09
I never really agreed that this was better than the original. "High Hopes" by Pink Floud remains my favourite song to ever, ever have been written. Its the bells, the long intro, the menace in his voice - its a masterpiece and in all honesty I have never heard anything so beautiful as Pink Floyd's version.
However I am also a die hard Nightwish fan and would say this would be comparable if I didn't love "High Hopes" so much. It is a clever and more energised rendition of the song, but you can't knock how eerie Gilmour writes about lost dreams and time slipping away.
I love both really, this version just has a lot of energy and is nicely done. Two great bands, one amazing song, enough said.
Just fantastic! | Reviewer: os_teriyaki | 2/4/09
I adore this version so much! I listened to original, and Pink Floyd's is good, but I much prefer the power in Nightwish's version. Emppu's solo is awesome, and of course Marco's vocals are incredible! I think this may be one of the best songs for his vocal talent.

First heard this song by Nightwish and decided to download the original Pink Floyd version only to be disappointed that it didn't sound as good. Marco does an AMAZING job on this song! My favourite version is the one from their live DVD 'End of an Era'.
the best cover ever made... | Reviewer: Luciano | 12/13/07
I love Pink Floyd, but since I heard this cover, I loved NightWish...
Marco is actually the musician I respect the most, wonderful voice, high hopes @ higher energy!

great song! The original version of it wasn't as good as this one! Marco (Nightwish) has a great voice for songs like this one! There's more 'power' in this version!
